Thursday, KU announced a new number for one returning player and the numbers for KU s 2019 incoming class. The following slides will include rundowns of each player and the jersey numbers they ll be wearing for the upcoming season...
Devon Dotson will wear a new number for his sophomore season. Dotson wore No. 11 during his freshman year but will make the switch to No. 1 for his second campaign with the Jayhawks. Dedric Lawson wore the number last season and averaged just over 19 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Dotson had previously told reporters he was making the switch to a new number. He tested the NBA Draft waters following the season but ultimately made the decision to return to the Jayhawks for his sophomore campaign. He is among the Big 12 s top returning players and should be expected to start every game.
Christian Braun signed with Kansas back in November and is poised to make an impact his freshman year.
Braun is a three star recruit out of Blue Valley Northwest and was the No. 30 ranked small forward in the country and No. 4 ranked player out of the state of Kansas.
247Sports Brian Snow offered this evaluation of Braun s game.
A good athlete on the wing with solid length and versatility. Has improved greatly throughout his high school career. He is at his best as a shot maker from deep. Given his length and athleticism https://www.kansasjayhawksshop.com/udoka-azubuike-jersey-c-14.html, his ability to shoot makes him dangerous on the wing when surrounded by drivers. Braun can also attack a closeout, and is getting better at finishing through contact. While he might not start right away, Braun should develop into a quality contributor in college.
Recently, Braun talked about the prospects of playing under coach Bill Self.
Isaiah Moss comes to KU by way of a graduate transfer. Moss redshirted a year and played three at the University of Iowa. In his time there, Moss averaged 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists. In the 2018 19 season, Moss averaged 9.2 points and shot 42.1 percent from 3 point range.
Self had this to say about Moss
Isaiah was a very good player on a very good team at the University of Iowa, Self said in a release. He s played in big games. He s certainly used to the physicality of our sport after playing in the Big Ten and has been very well coached and drilled. He also played at a top high school program at Simeon in Chicago. I m very excited about him and the opportunities that he will give us to stretch the floor and certainly play with a couple really good big guys.
Jalen Wilson committed to KU and signed with the Jayhawks Wednesday.
Wilson is a four star recruit out of Denton, Texas and is the No. 50 ranked player in the class of 2019 and is the No. 8 ranked player out of the state of Texas.
247Sports Evan Daniels offered this evaluation of Wilson s game
A big perimeter prospect that possesses shooting ability and skill. At 6 8, he has very good size for the position and he s a good athlete. He has a solid build and one that would fill out further in a college weight room. He already plays well through contact. Shooting is among his biggest strengths. He has good shot mechanics Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk Jersey, shot preparation and good range. He s also a good passer. Areas for improvement include creating space for pull ups and ball handling. Wilson has the chance to be a first round draft pick with development.
Here are a number of stories from Wilson s commitment
TRISTAN ENARUNA — NO. 13
Tristan Enaruna committed to KU back in May and has since joined the rest of the squad in Lawrence. Enaruna is a four star recruit and is the No. 61 ranked player in the class of 2019.
Self had this to say about Enaruna after he signed with KU
We have been recruiting Tristan the entire year and have always been impressed with his IQ, skillset and tremendous athletic ability, Self said in a relase. At 17 years old, he is young for his class but his versatility is one of a guard. ... We feel like Tristan s ceiling is one that he could be one of the most complete offensive players that we ve had here at Kansas over the last several years.
Michael Jankovich joins the Jayhawks as a walk on. Jankovich is the son of former KU basketball assistant coach and current SMU head coach Tim Jankovich.
Here are some of Jankovich’s highlights from the Adidas circuit. He made one 3 point shot in KU basketball s first camp scrimmage and Self even said before the event that he might be the best shooter in the gym. Jankovich is joining the team as a walk on during the same offseason that former walk on Garrett Luinstra, from Lawrence Free State, was reported by 247Sports to have been departing. Luinstra has entered the transfer portal and is not expected back.
Issac McBride signed with KU back in November and is now on campus for the summer.
McBride is a three star recruit and is the No. 22 ranked combo guard in the class of 2019.
247Sports Brian Snow offered this evaluation of McBride s game
A player who can really shoot the ball, McBride is going to be asked to stretch the defense and can really score it off the catch and off the bounce. While he isn’t a true point guard, McBride is able to run the team at times, and shows a solid feel for the game. Still what the 6 foot 1 combo guard does best is make shots, and play with energy. A solid athlete https://www.kansasjayhawksshop.com/mitch-lightfoot-jersey-c-15.html, he should bring some offensive punch to the court right away, and develop into a quality player during his time in college.
After 34 games and 1,360 minutes, Gonzaga players are bound to have bumps, bruises and soreness. But this is the NCAA Tournament, so pain management turns into more of a mental game. That doesn’t mean they don’t treat their bodies with more care.
“I’m good, we’re still playing basketball. Obviously, everyone is banged up in here, but it doesn’t even matter,” Josh Perkins said.
Perkins has played in 1,028 minutes this year, the most on the team, an average of almost 31 minutes a game. After dealing with a broken jaw his freshman year and offseason shoulder surgery before this campaign, he is no stranger to having to alter his workout regimens.
“Don’t lift as heavy of weight, but honestly since the shoulder surgery https://www.gonzagabulldogsjersey.com/zach-collins-jersey-c-17.html, I haven’t really lifted hard all season,” Perkins said. “Just trying to get my conditioning right and keeping my nutrition right.”
In the locker room Friday, sophomore Corey Kispert was sitting on the floor with his legs wrapped in what looked like giant balloons.
It actually was a recovery tool used to help blood circulate through the legs. It helps work muscle groups in the leg, flushing lactic acid. It’s one of the many tools at his disposal during the season, and one of the things he has to do to keep his body fresh late in the season.
“Especially with working out, it is just an extreme focus on actions I will be doing in game, and shots I will be taking in the game,” Kispert said. “Much less reps at a higher intensity and keeping the workouts shorter, and more time spent in the ice bath and the training room to get my body right.”
Travis Knight, head strength and conditioning coach for GU’s basketball team, uses unique plans for each player – something Perkins said makes a difference in his recovery and training.
“The cool thing about Trav is he makes it individual based,” Perkins said. “It’s not everybody lifting the same thing, and that’s what is cool about GU.”
As the season progresses https://www.gonzagabulldogsjersey.com/killian-tillie-jersey-c-18.html, players make more frequent trips to the training room, getting work done with head athletic trainer Josh Therrien. Knight and Therrien work hand in hand, making sure they keep track of who visits the training room more often, and then adjusting their workout plans accordingly.
The work done behind the scenes allows these student athletes to perform at their highest abilities.
As players spend more time in GU’s system, they’re given more control over their workouts. For example, freshman Filip Petrusev will have a more scheduled workout routine compared to Perkins.
“They earn it as they go along and we encourage a lot of ownership, which also means they do a lot of extra work and a lot of extra things,” Knight said. “So it doesn’t mean they just get to pick what they don’t want to do. They have a lot of voice in saying what helps and what doesn’t.”
For Kispert, ice baths and the inflatable pants are his staples after practice. He used to hate the ice baths, but has learned to appreciate them as the long season takes its toll on his body.
After a grueling season, March Madness reinvigorates the players, blocking out the nicks and bruises being treated.
“Now during the tournament, it is the most exciting time Josh Perkins Jersey, and we are high on basketball again,” Kispert said. “The end of conference play is no joke. You have to force yourself to go to the gym, force yourself to be enthusiastic during practices even if you don’t want to.”
Brother of Baylor head coach fired by Vanderbilt Bryce Drew https://www.gonzagabulldogsjersey.com/ryan-edwards-jersey-c-16.html, brother of Baylor head coach Scott Drew, was fired as the head coach of Vanderbilt on Friday after the Commodores’ worst season in program history. After a night of responding to congratulatory texts about the Bears’ win over Syracuse, Scott Drew woke up to messages about his brother.
“When things happen to you, it’s one thing,” Scott Drew said. “When it happens to your loved ones, your mom, your dad, your brother, your sister, it probably affects you more than them. At the same time, he’s got – he’s blessed to have great friends, great family support and he’s got a great faith, and he knows God has a different plan for him. And as a big brother, obviously whatever I can do to help him, I’m going to do.”
Athletic director Malcolm Turner announced the decision about two months after he was hired at Vanderbilt after being a part of the NBA’s senior leadership team and president of the NBA’s G League.
Drew had three years remaining on his six year contract, but the Commodores went 9 23 overall and 0 18 in Southeastern Conference play, the first team in the 65 year history of the SEC to go winless in conference play.
But 2019’s class was the highest ranked recruiting class in Vanderbilt history, and many wondered what could have been with another season to build his team.
Point guard Darius Garland, a five star recruit, blew his knee out in the fifth game of the season. He is projected to go as high as fourth overall in this year’s NBA Draft, according to some mock drafts.
Another five star recruit, power forward Simi Shittu, struggled in his development this season, but was also projected to be a top draft pick before the season.
But with the firing, Vandy next must figure out how to keep its newest strong crop of signees and commitments from jumping ship. Two four star players have signed and Scotty Pippen Jr., son of former NBA great Scottie Pippen, has committed.
Former West Virginia wide receiver Marcus Simms was not selected in the 2019 NFL Supplemental Draft https://www.wvubasketballjersey.com/jevon-carter-jersey-c-9.html, but he did come to terms with an NFL franchise shortly after the draft and will report to training camp in the coming weeks. With several free agent offer son the table, Simms signed a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars , per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Simms, originally a three star recruit from Maryland, would have been the team s top returning receiver this year. He Lamont West Jersey started ten games during his first three seasons on campus and recorded 87 catches for 1,457 yards and eight touchdowns. He also displayed a tremendous ability to return kicks, averaging 24.2 yards per kick return and was named Second Team All Big 12 at both kick return and punt returner as a sophomore.
Simms status with WVU was up in the air late in the fall semester. He skipped the bowl game, citing a hamstring injury that was apparently news to the coaching staff the day before the contest. With Neal Brown and Co. arriving on campus in January https://www.wvubasketballjersey.com/wesley-harris-jersey-c-7.html, Simms was in and out of practice throughout the spring, with the official word on his absence varying from week to week.
Behind the scenes, EerSports had been reporting on an academic issue that Simms was involved in, and it was very much putting his NCAA eligibility in jeopardy. Simms would later enter the transfer portal https://www.wvubasketballjersey.com/chase-harler-jersey-c-8.html, but due to that eligibility issue, several schools mostly Auburn and Maryland took a look, but backed off. The status change, though, did make him eligible for the NFL Supplemental Draft, a special draft that runs in the summer where teams can offer up a draft pick from next year s draft to take players whose status has changed after the draft in April. Only one player was selected, Washington State safety Jalen Thomson by the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals sacrificed a fifth round pick in the 2020 draft to take Thomson.
The former Duke Basketball legend, Zion Williamson, racked in another award on Wednesday night winning the ESPY for the Best College Athlete. To whoever created the saying, ‘You can’t win them all,’ clearly never envisioned the greatness of Zion Williamson.
Williamson won the ESPY for the Best College Athlete Tyus Jones Jersey, on the heels of being named the ACC Male Athlete of the Year and winning every National Player of the Year Award for the 2018 19 season in addition to being the ACC Player of the Year. Zion also was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans.
Murray won the Heisman Trophy and was the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, Ionescu was a triple double machine for the Oregon Women’s Basketball team, breaking the NCAA’s all time record for a triple doubles in a single season, and Garcia led the UCLA Softball team to a National Championship.
In his acceptance speech, Williamson thanked Duke University and Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski for allowing him to play on the game’s biggest stage https://www.dukebluedevilsjersey.com/jabari-parker-jersey-c-18.html, and also gave a special shoutout to The Brotherhood, as Williamson said he wished they could have been with him. Zion also said that he wishes he could return to Duke, but subtly mentioned that huge check that was awaiting him in the NBA, as shown by his outfits tonight and at the NBA Draft.
At Duke, Williamson averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game leading the Blue Devils to an ACC Tournament Championship and a berth in the Elite Eight, coming within one point of the Final Four.
Zion Williamson has been shut down for the rest of the Las Vegas Summer League due to a left knee bruise, but the https://www.dukebluedevilsjersey.com/austin-rivers-jersey-c-17.html injury is not considered to be serious and the Pelicans are being extra cautious with the superstars healthy early in his career.
