ALAMEDA Antonio Brown Jersey White , Calif. (AP) — Derek Carr acknowledged that all the speculation about whether the Oakland Raiders would draft a quarterback this offseason to replace him as starter got annoying, even if he was confident it wouldn’t happen. The rumors were only fueled when coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock met with Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins before the draft. But they were both publicly and privately adamant that Carr was their man even if he was coming off a down season.Carr took them and owner Mark Davis at their word and tried his best to tune out all the talk.“When I watched the draft there was like negative 47% chance they would draft somebody in my mind,” Carr said Tuesday. “It wasn’t going to happen. They pretty much said that every time it came up, if it came up. We’re obviously not just playing for this year. I’m honestly going to be here for a long time.”Carr has had an up-and-down tenure with Oakland since being drafted in the second round in 2014 and starting all 16 games as a rookie. He struggled on a poor team his first year but showed signs of being the answer to the Raiders’ revolving door at quarterback. He made big steps the next two seasons, throwing for a career-high 32 touchdowns in 2015 and then leading the Raiders to a 12-3 record and the first playoff berth since 2002 the following year before going down with a broken leg in the second-to-last game of the season.Carr then took a big step back in 2017 after getting a five-year, $125 million deal in the offseason as he came back from the leg injury and was hampered at times by a back injury. In his first year under Gruden, Carr had career-bests in completion percentage and yards, but threw a career-low 19 TD passes and was sacked a career-worst 51 times during a 4-12 season that led to all the talk about a possible change.“I’m not going to critique Derek Carr in the media,” Gruden said. “I think he’s pretty well-respected as one of the best arm talents in football. He’s a lot more athletic than people think. If we can get some continuity here in this building with the system and with the supporting cast and we can improve the defense, I think he can be one of the best in football.”The Raiders got Carr the help he needs by trading for prolific receiver Antonio Brown, signing deep threat Tyrell Williams, drafting running back Josh Jacobs in the first round and signing Trent Brown to the richest contract ever for a tackle.Even more importantly, Carr gets to stay in the same offensive system in consecutive years for just the second time in his career. The last time that happened came during his most successful season in 2016 under coordinator Bill Musgrave.Carr said the difference from a year ago when he had to practice calling plays in front of a mirror is night and day.“It’s nice to know I’m speaking the same language and I don’t have to learn a whole new set of terminology,” he said. “More importantly, I know Coach Gruden and the way he thinks now. I’ve played a season with him where I know what he expects on this down and distance.”Carr didn’t have all his new toys at his disposal at the start of organized team activities. Brown was not at practice, although Gruden said he expected him back soon. Jacobs took part in stretching and walkthroughs but left before team drills as he deals with an undisclosed injury.Carr did show some early chemistry with Williams, connecting on a deep pass for a touchdown during seven-on-seven drills.“It’s exciting,” Williams said. “Hopefully we have a lot more of that.”That type of deep strike wasn’t a big part of Oakland’s offense last season under Gruden, who typically utilizes a shorter passing game. Oakland lacked reliable deep threats for much of last season and the offensive line struggled to give Carr enough time to throw deep.Over the past three years, Carr has ranked tied for third on accuracy of deep passes, according to Pro Football Focus. But he hasn’t taken many shots, ranking outside the top 20 every year in average depth of target and toward the bottom of the NFL when it comes to how often he throws deep.“Contrary to popular belief, I like throwing it down the field. We’re pretty good at it here,” Carr said. “It’s nice to have someone with that skill set. To be able to have multiple guys who can do it, there’s no doubt about it, we’ve added a lot of speed to that room. It will be fun. It’s fun for a quarterback.” OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Jon Gruden’s return to the Oakland Raiders‘ sideline couldn’t have gotten off to a better start Bo Jackson Jersey White , with Marshawn Lynch powering his way into the end zone for a touchdown. The rest of the night turned out to be rather forgettable for the Raiders and showed that Oakland has a long way to go to get back to the level Gruden had the team playing at when his first stint as coach ended more than 16 years ago.All that positive energy generated when Gruden was hired back in January turned to a chorus of boos by the end of a 33-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday.“It was great,” Gruden said of being back on the sideline at the Oakland Coliseum. “It’s not time for that anymore. It’s about getting this football team better. It wasn’t good enough tonight.”The Raiders (0-1) were good enough for one half as Derek Carr led the team to that opening-drive touchdown and two more field goals that gave Oakland a 13-10 lead at halftime. But the Rams (1-0) then scored all 23 points in the second half, with Marcus Peters returning Carr’s third interception of the game 50 yards for a game-sealing touchdown that sent the fans who pined for Gruden’s return for years heading to the exits.“We are a better team than what was put out there on the field,” tight end Jared Cook said. “This one game does not define us.”The Raiders took the opening kick and drove 75 yards for a touchdown on a 10-yard run by Lynch. The Rams had Lynch stood up at the 3, but he powered his way into the end zone with help from a push by his offensive linemen.Oakland managed just six points the rest of the way against a defense fortified by the offseason additions of former All-Pros Peters, Aqib Talib and Ndamukong Suh.Carr threw an interception in the end zone to John Johnson in the second quarter, another in the fourth when he tried to pull back a pass at the last minute only to have the ball slip out and float right to linebacker Cory Littleton, and then the third on a miscommunication with Cook.“He did some good things tonight and obviously there are some critical errors he has to eliminate,” Gruden said. “He knows that. We all know that.”Here are some other takeaways from the game:FIND A RHYTHMThe Rams started slowly after resting their entire starting offense throughout the preseason, as well as several key defensive players. But things turned in the second half, starting with quarterback Jared Goff leading the team to a tying field goal on the opening drive. Then they took the lead for good on a 58-yard, four-play drive that featured two passes downfield to another offseason addition, Brandin Cooks, and an 8-yard TD to Cooper Kupp.“Any first game of the year, you’re dealing with some things,” Goff said. “You look at other teams around the league and it’s no different for us.”COOK’S NIGHTCook was one of the only Raiders to have a big night. He caught nine passes for 180 yards , breaking Todd Christensen’s franchise record for receiving yards by a tight end. Christensen had 173 vs. the Chargers on Nov. 20, 1986.OH, SNAPThe Raiders got thrown for a loop early when long snapper Andrew DePaola injured his knee on a punt in the first quarter and didn’t return. Tight end Lee Smith filled in and provided accurate snaps on two field goals. He had a high snap on a punt, but Johnny Townsend leaped and brought it down with no issues.r when Jon Condo got hurt for Oakland and Travis Goethel came in and botched three snaps in a loss to the Chargers.“It was stressful, I can’t even lie to you guys,” Smith said. “I’m just glad they all got back there.”FEED THE BEASTRams RB Todd Gurley had just five touches in the first half. He carried four times for 19 yards and took a short flip from Goff 19 yards for a score on his only reception. Gurley had 18 touches in the second half, carrying 16 times for 89 yards and catching two passes for 20 yards.“You just try to get in that rhythm, get the ball, get consecutive run plays in a row,” he said. “We were able to do that in the second half.”
ENGLEWOOD Womens John Elway Jersey , Colo. — John Elway didn’t dare draft another quarterback in the first round. Twenty four hours later, he didn’t hesitate to select Missouri’s Drew Lock, the QB so many mock drafts had him selecting with the 10th overall pick.Instead, Elway got his man at No. 42.“We’re very fortunate. We didn’t think he would fall nearly this far,” Elway said. “Right now, we’ve got a starting quarterback in Joe Flacco, so he’ll be an understudy .”Elway entered Day 2 with two second-round selections but after taking Kansas State offensive lineman Dalton Risner, who grew up in Colorado, at 41, Elway scrambled to get back-to-back picks, trading No. 52 to Cincinnati along with fourth- and sixth-rounders Saturday to move up 10 spots. While Risner could start at right guard right away for Denver, there’s no pressure to throw Lock into the lineup, especially because he’s not the pressure-packed first-rounder he was expected to be.Burned by bad QB decisions since Peyton Manning’s retirement three years ago, most notably first-round bust Paxton Lynch, Elway acquired Flacco from the Ravens this winter and doubled down this month by declaring the 34-year-old veteran was still in his prime.Sliding into the second round, however Bradley Chubb Broncos Jersey , brings more motivation into the mix for Lock, who watched Daniel Jones and Dwayne Haskins go in the first round.“It certainly does,” Lock said. “I know the kind of player I am. I know the kind of player I’m going to be. than the one that’s already on there.”Lock was among the two dozen prospects invited to the draft in Nashville, and about an hour after Elway drafted him, he was brought out onto the stage to get the traditional hug and handshake with the commissioner that he’d expected 24 hours earlier. Before Day 2 got going, first-round pick Iowa tight end Noah Fant arrived in Denver to pose for pictures and talk about how thrilled he was to join a team intent on upgrading a deficient offense under new head coach Vic Fangio and his staff. The Broncos selected Ohio State defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones with the 71st overall pick in the third round, the first defender selected on Fangio’s watch.Jones has the first step and ability to get through the gaps defensive line coaches love. The big question is if his 2018 production — 13 tackles for loss were more than 2016 and 2017 combined — is a sign of things to come. He also needs to develop some counter moves.SUPER DUPERSo far, Fant has said he’s “super excited and super stoked” to be a Bronco, “super hyped” about playing with Flacco and “super excited” that he’s in Denver. Taking a call from Elway was a “super special moment” that made him “super emotional and super happy.” And knowing Flacco likes to target his tight ends makes him “super, super — I can’t express how happy I am about that.”Meeting last year’s first-round pick Bradley Chubb upon his arrival at team headquarters was “super cool,” and he reiterated he was “super happy” to get selected by Denver and his family was “super happy,” too.Fant added that “having a Super Bowl quarterback like Joe Flacco is going to be a lot of fun.” We pick, you vote, the Denver Broncos get their guy with the 41st overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft."Welcome to Mock Madness, where your favorite writers GM 31 teams to give you guys a chance to get to vote on the Broncos’ pick in each round. This week marks the last of the bye weeks for this season. Whether you need to find replacements on the waiver wire or not https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey , make sure that you check to see who is available to make sure that there aren’t any possible upgrades out there for your team. We’re getting to the point in the season where owners who are on the playoff bubble will have to make tough decisions. They may need to release a useful player in order to field a full roster because they need to win this week no matter what.We all hate those kinds of decisions but if you’re on that playoff line, you can’t worry about next week until it actually comes. Here are some players that could help you pop that bubble and get you into your league’s playoffs. — JAMAAL WILLIAMS, RB, Green Bay Packers (8 percent owned in CBSSports.com leagues) Williams is likely to be the number one claim due to injuries to both Aaron Jones (MCL) and Ty Montgomery (ribs). We don’t know how long either player will be out of the lineup. What we do know is that MCL injuries usually take at least three weeks to heal and the injury to Montgomery is a re-injury to the ribs he broke several weeks ago. The Packers might take the cautious approach and hold Montgomery out until they are positive that those ribs are healed. The Packers don’t have much of a passing game without Aaron Rodgers and the offensive line (which was already average at best) lost their best player for the season last week, Bryan Bulaga. You may not want to break your free agent acquisition budget for Williams unless you just don’t have anything to lose. SAMAJE PERINE, RB, Washington Redskins (14 percent) Perine has done very little with his opportunities this season as he only has 175 yards on 57 carries, but he could be the starting running back this week and every starting RB has value. The current starter, Rob Kelley, left the game Sunday with knee and ankle injuries that could sideline him for an undetermined amount of time. If that were to happen, Perine would be the starter and a possible flex play. AUSTIN EKELER, RB, Los Angeles Chargers (5 percent) We don’t want to overreact to Ekeler’s performance Sunday, but it’s hard to ignore that he had two scores and outperformed Melvin Gordon versus what may be the best defense in the NFL in the Jaguars. Ekeler was also the RB the Chargers trusted (incorrectly, as he fumbled) to try and close out the game. Gordon is still the starter here Montez Sweat Jersey , but he has been battling injury all season long and if the team decides to shut him down early as they fall out of playoff contention or if they just decide to limit his snaps, Ekeler will be the primary beneficiary. JAMISON CROWDER, WR, Washington Redskins (39 percent) If the Washington defense continues to perform anywhere near as poor the rest of the season as they did Sunday, then they will have to throw the ball early and often. Terrelle Pryor might be the biggest free agent bust and Jordan Reed can’t stay healthy. That leaves Crowder as the first look on most pass attempts for Kirk Cousins. In deeper leagues, Josh Doctson (41 percent) could also be a pickup. CHARLES CLAY, TE, Buffalo Bills (47 percent) Clay returned from a knee injury Sunday and although he only caught two balls, he should return to being a red zone threat for Tyrod Taylor and the Bills for the remainder of the season. The addition of Kelvin Benjamin could take away some of those looks from Clay, but that also assumes that Taylor and Benjamin will have the kind of chemistry together that Taylor and Clay already have. ERIC EBRON, TE, Detroit Lions (48 percent) Sure, it’s hard to rely on Ebron, who had his issues this season and has pretty much been a fantasy disappointment since coming into the NFL, but the Lions aren’t very good at running the ball and will have to use the passing game to score points. Ebron won’t be the first or even the second look on most pass plays but he did catch a touchdown versus Cleveland on Sunday and could still be a red zone threat with the size advantage he will pose over most corners and safeties that will try and cover him. — This column was provided to The Associated Press by the Fantasy Sports Network Dwayne Haskins Jersey , http://FNTSY.com WASHINGTON (AP) — Yes, the Washington Redskins are 5-2 for the first time in a decade. And now, forget that the when they started that well in 2008, they ended up 8-8.Yes, they’re 5-1 against the NFC for the first time since 2005.Yes, they’re leading their division on the strength of a three-game winning streak. And, looking ahead, yes, they have an enviable schedule, with only one remaining foe currently holding a record above .500. Next weekend’s opponent, Atlanta , is 3-4.There is still a long way to go, though, for a team that scores very little and passes rather poorly, getting by thanks to a terrific run defense and a strong rushing offense led by 33-year-old Adrian Peterson. That formula worked yet again Sunday in a 20-13 victory against the can’t-do-anything-right New York Giants. How sustainable is that approach?“We feel good Wes Martin Jersey ,” said Peterson, who gained 149 yards on the ground with a TD and caught a 7-yard scoring pass from Alex Smith, “but we can’t get too excited.”Coach Jay Gruden acknowledges there is a plenty of room for improvement with Smith, acquired in an offseason trade with the Kansas City Chiefs to replace Kirk Cousins and signed to a $94 million, four-year contract.Smith hasn’t thrown for more than 178 yards in any of the past three games. His completion percentage has been 60 or worse in four of the last five. His season passer rating of 91.3 ranks only 22nd among QBs with at least 100 attempts.“We’re close. We missed some opportunities, of course. Just a matter of (what) might be a missed throw here or there. Might be a poor route, maybe. Might be a protection issue,” Gruden said. “We’re just not quite in full sync right now at this time.”Things looked rather bleak for the Redskins after a 43-19 loss to the New Orleans Saints dropped Gruden’s club to 2-2.Look where they are now.“I knew it was going to take some time, but finally we’re starting to get over that hump and starting to get over that hill,” cornerback Josh Norman said. “We’re just riding our tricycles down it.”Notes: LT Trent Williams dislocated his right thumb against the Giants and the Redskins will try to figure out a way to allow him to move the thumb with a cast on. … S Troy Apke reinjured his hamstring and was put on injured reserve. Washington signed LB Cassanova McKinzy to their active roster from their practice squad and added DB Jason Thompson to the practice squad. … Other injuries: RB Chris Thompson (rib), RB Kapri Bibbs (shoulder), LB Ryan Anderson (knee).

Today on the Oakland Raiders Reddit site, Raiders tight end Darren Waller held an AMA.He talked about his time with the Raiders, his youth football experiences, music, and more. Here are some of the questions and answers that are found in Waller’s AMA.Q: Hey Darren! Which rookie has impressed you the most this offseason? A: I’ll probably say Foster Moreau. I’m very impressed with him. Very good blocker. Very underrated in the passing game. You wouldn’t think he’s very fast if you look at his times, but he can really move. Very smooth runner. Definitely understands the game and takes it pretty seriously. All the rookies have done something to impress me, though. His consistency is impressive. I think he went up for a ball on a sail route in OTAs and just like… really got up off the ground, and I was like, Wow, Foster’s not just your typical grinder-of-the-ax blocking tight end. He can do a lot of things.Q: Other than all the new faces, what’s changed the most from last year?A: I feel like it’s the same energetic feel on offense. I feel like the defensive leadership has really stood out to me, as far as Vontaze and LaMarcus Joyner, but also guys like Tahir, Johnathan Hankins. Guys that have been here since last year. They’ve just really helped change the whole vibe around here. They know what our numbers were last year, but they know that there is no way they’re going to be the same this year.Q: Which tight end or receiver do you model your game after the most? Past or present.A: I’ve watched a LOT of tape, so there isn’t any one in particular. It’s more about taking things I like from a lot of other people’s game. Of course Jimmy Graham since the New Orleans days; you’ve got Kelce in our division; Zach Ertz; I’m really a fan of the way Greg Olsen plays… Lotta guys.Q: I have a question, do you think that being featured on Hard Knocks is as much of a distraction as people make it out to be? Seems a little overblown to me.A: I think it’s a bit overblown. I feel like they actually do a good job of capturing the camp atmosphere. I’ve had no problem with it. And I don’t sense any of the other guys going out of their way to be extra or show out for the cameras or anything like that. I feel like guys are just focusing in. We’ve got a lot of stuff to do here anyway, and if they want to make a show about it, that’s cool. We’ve got a pretty unique journey here.Q: What’s your favorite memory of football?A: We had a really good football team when I was like seven or eight to 10 years old. Blackwell Bears in Metro Atlanta. I played quarterback. Those were really great times. Our team was really good and those times when we were little and doing all those hitting drills — even though looking back now it’s like, that probably wasn’t the smartest thing. But those were probably the most fun times for me.Q: Hey Darren outside of football Antonio Brown Jersey White , what is your favorite pastime / hobby ? A: My favorite hobby right now is definitely producing and making beats and recording music. It’s something I started doing when I got drafted in Baltimore. I just started rapping in the iPod earbud headphones on my MacBook, but now I record at a studio.I’ve released some of it. I have a project called Wall Street coming out on my birthday September 3. I do have a SoundCloud. My first project’s called Better Call Wall. It’s on iTunes and Spotify. If you’re interested in Darren’s music, he raps under the name D Wall, and you can listen to his music here or here.Q: Other than natural talent, what made Jared Cook so successful in this system last year? After all, he did have a career year at 31 years old.A: His ability to retain a lot of information and his ability to line up in so many different spots. He’s such a good player, but if he just lined up in one spot, it would give the defense more of an opportunity to gameplan for him. But now it’s like he can line up out wide by himself, he can line up in the middle, trips, he can line up in the bunch, and it’s now it’s like, “Man, what do we do with this guy?” Because he’s a beast to begin with. Also his catch radius and how he looks the ball in when he catches it. He can catch it at so many angles, but if you zoom in on his eyes, they’re always looking it in. He’s a good route runner. Smooth. He’s knows those little tricks of the trade, like how you don’t always have to run full speed to get open. He knows where to fall into zones and how to fall back into holes for Derek. So that’s why he was really successful — among a whole lot of other things.<hr class="p-entry-hr" id="DFrB6v">Waller has been, according to media reports, far and away the best tight end at Raiders camp and many expect him to win the starting tight end job. It’s interesting to read about his personal approach to the game, his love for football and about his other interests in life. If Waller takes the tight end job and runs with it, you’ll see a lot more press about him this season. ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — A week off helped cure the Oakland Raiders offensive woes even with Amari Cooper and Marshawn Lynch not around. The defense still is plagued by all the problems that have been evident all season and a major reason why the Raiders are such a big disappointment in Jon Gruden’s first year back as coach. The Raiders (1-6) allowed Marlon Mack and the Colts to run for 222 yards, gave up three touchdown passes from Andrew Luck to his trio of tight ends and failed to generate a sack or takeaway in a 42-28 loss that came after what players and coaches felt was the best week of practice for the defense all season.“Well it just wasn’t good enough,” Gruden said Monday. “I’m not going to sit up here and say much more. We have to do a better job collectively. Getting off blocks, staying in the right gap and making physical tackles and knocking them backward. Those areas, it’s hard to practice live. It’s hard to practice against the exact look you’re going to see at full speed Bo Jackson Jersey White , as you know. But we are practicing well. We are practicing hard.”The results just aren’t there. The Raiders have allowed their most points (218) through seven games since 1961 and rank third worst in the league in third-down defense (49.4 percent), second worst in scoring defense (31.1 ppg), last in run defense (144.7 ypg) and last in sacks (seven).Oakland even made several changes in personnel with defensive backs Gareon Conley, Karl Joseph and Nick Nelson; and linebackers Jason Cabinda, Kyle Wilber and Nicholas Morrow all getting their most extensive playing time of the season as searches for answers. But that didn’t help at all as the Raiders allowed 42 points for the second straight game at the Coliseum.“We’re looking for more consistency. We’re looking for somebody to step up, not only on game day but during the week,” Gruden said. “We’re still working through who are the best corners, who is the best combination for us in every situation. Hopefully we can settle on it soon.”The one positive to take away from the game was the performance of the offense in a week after the team traded Cooper and placed Lynch on injured reserve, knocking out the No. 1 receiver and lead running back.Playing behind a healthier offensive line that provided much more time than it did the previous game in London on Oct. 14 against Seattle, Derek Carr had perhaps his best game yet under Gruden.Carr threw three touchdown passes, ran for a fourth score, completed 17 straight passes at one point and perhaps most importantly, committed no turnovers for just the second time this season.“I think we’ve tried to be creative. I think anyone will tell you that the injuries on the offensive line, multiple injuries at left guard, right tackle, can stymie you, it can make things tough on everyone,” Gruden said.“An 11-hour flight can make things doubly hard. I’m not going to say anything other than yesterday we had a good rhythm, we were able to finish some drives. I think Derek Carr showed you what kind of quarterback he is when he gets legitimate pass protection and gets some balance. That was exciting.” with Doug Martin playing his best game yet in place of Lynch. Martin ran for 72 yards on 13 carries and caught two passes for 17 yards in his most prolific game since 2016.But Martin also lost a key fumble in the fourth quarter with Oakland trailing by seven, sealing another loss.“He’s a good player,” Gruden said. “He had the fumble. Obviously, that will be remembered by a lot of people and rightfully so. But, what a performance he had yesterday. He picked up a couple blitzes. He ran with authority. He can catch the ball. He has a great stiff-arm, still. He still has a lot of life in his legs.”NOTES: Gruden is hopeful LG Kelechi Osemele could return from a knee injury this week. … OL Backup OL T.J. Clemmings will go on IR soon with a season-ending knee injury. … DT Eddie Vanderdoes could return this week from a major knee injury in last year’s season finale.
Five years ago https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , the Raiders found future Hall of Famer Khalil Mack with the fifth overall pick in the draft. This time around, the Raiders have earned the fourth pick in round one — and the pressure to find another Mack has increased, given that they traded him to the Bears in September. There’s a belief in some circles that, if quarterback Kyler Murray is available at pick No. 4, the Raiders will be tempted to take him. But the far more urgent need, especially in light of the team’s placement in the same division as quarterback Patrick Mahomes, is the defense. The players to watch at No. 4 include Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver, Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa, and Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell. One or more of those players likely will be gone by the time Oakland picks, but at least one will still be available when Oakland is on the clock.Of course, if only one of those four is left when Oakland selects, that means Murray also will be there. Which could prompt the Raiders to choose a fight-fire-with-fire approach to Mahomes over loading up the defense in an effort to slow down the Chiefs’ offense.Whatever the Raiders do at No. 4, they’ll need an impact player who makes fans and media forget about Mack. If the Raiders aren’t convinced that they’ll get one Derek Carr Jersey White , another option would be to trade back, compile more tickets in the annual Hall of Famer lottery, and commit to the notion that, if they scratch off another winner, they’ll actually keep him around this time. After several suspensions, accusations of racism and bullying, and run-ins with police off the field, Richie Incognito didn't know if he'd ever get another chance to play in the NFL despite being a four-time Pro Bowl guard.Incognito retired following the 2017 season to deal with his issues, He quickly realized he missed the game and began working to get back in shape so he could play again — if the opportunity arose. It took until this spring for the Oakland Raiders finally to give him that chance on what general manager Mike Mayock described as a one-year "prove-it deal" for Incognito to show he can thrive both as a player and a person."It's about redemption," Incognito said Saturday following the first training camp practice in his first news conference since signing with Oakland in late May. "It's about getting another opportunity. It's about Mike Mayock, Jon Gruden and the Raiders' organization giving me an opportunity. I want to make it right. I want to make it positive for everybody. I want to be come in here and contribute. I want to be a team leader. I want to rewrite the ending."Incognito's career has been filled with several highs, including his play on the field as a dominant blocker with the type of mean streak coaches often crave from their offensive linemen. But that nastiness often served as a detriment and Incognito acknowledges having many "dark days" along the way when he was unable to control his inner demons.Incognito was suspended multiple times in college; banned in the NFL for bullying teammate Jonathan Martin in Miami in 2013; accused of making racist slurs to Jacksonville defensive end Yannick Ngakoue during a playoff game in January 2018; and had multiple run-ins with police since he retired following the 2017 season. In May 2018, police in South Florida placed Incognito in a mental hospital after he allegedly threw weights and tennis balls at gym employees and another patron, and told officers the government was spying on him.Incognito was arrested in August 2018 in Arizona on charges he threatened to shoot employees of a funeral home. A police report showed officers later executed a search warrant on Incognito's pickup truck and seized two Glocks Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , three rifles and a silencer for a handgun. He pleaded to disorderly conduct in that case in April and has been suspended two games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy in a punishment the Raiders anticipated when they signed Incognito earlier this offseason.Mayock said the organization would have a plan to help Incognito. Incognito wouldn't get into details into what he and the club were doing, but said he had a team of people both within and outside the organization to help him."They wanted to know how they could help me, how they could help me adjust," Incognito said. "They were there with open arms. They've been great about it. We've been in constant communication, we have a team around me, and we're just making sure I'm checking all the boxes and holding up my end of the bargain. That's why it's great. It's great to get out here. I've checked all the boxes, done everything right and necessary to get out here and earn the opportunity to get back with the team."Incognito's ability on the field has helped him earn another chance. He made the Pro Bowl all three seasons in Buffalo from 2015-17 when he was considered a team leader. when he returns for Week 3; the 36-year-old Incognito is being counted on to replace Kelechi Osemele at left guard and help take pressure off second-year tackle Kolton Miller.Despite not playing all last season, Incognito impressed the Raiders in the offseason when he worked out with the team and has continued to do that at practice after he arrived. Coaches immediately put him in with the first-team unit."I'm not far behind," he said. "I feel like I'm still in good shape. I feel like I can still play with good technique and still play at a high level."But that has never been the question around Incognito. Keeping his mind straight has been, and he hopes he's in better position to do that now."The big thing for me is just being man enough to ask for help when I need it," he said. "For so many years, I've just tried to grit my teeth and work hard and kind of grind my way through this. You've obviously seen I've had my setbacks and dark days. But I'm focusing on those positive days and building some momentum to go right through the season."
Bigger wide receivers tend to be viewed as greater threats in the red zone due to their extra size giving them an advantage over smaller defensive backs.Denver Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton should fit that ball. At 6-foot-3 and 216 pounds Womens Joe Flacco Jersey , Sutton has enough size to be a problem for opposing defenses inside the 20-yard line. But as a rookie, Sutton wasn’t as productive near the end zone as he believes he should be.According to Ryan O’Halloran of the , Sutton is looking to become a greater threat in the red zone this season for the Broncos.“I’m definitely looking forward to capitalizing on (using my size) more this year,” Sutton said.Via O’Halloran, Sutton had just two catches on eight targets on plays inside the 20-yard line last season, though both of those catches went for touchdowns. There were 176 players that had more than two red zone catches and 80 that received more than eight targets last year.Sutton was a rookie adapting to the pro game last season. Additionally, developing the chemistry and trust with a quarterback to throw your way when the field condenses near the end zone can take some time. But as he gets sets to enter year two, Sutton believes it’s time to show what he can do.“Personally in the red zone, I think I’m one of the biggest threats that (defensive backs) go against,” he said. “Every DB that I played against or will play against will probably say the same thing. They might not show it, but they know.” Broncos have taken a hit at tight end, fullback and linebacker - three key positions for the Broncos’ offensive and defensive schemes." It’s been the hardest thing, mentally, I’ve ever had to go through,” Butt said. “I put the work in every single day. This is what I want to do. I want to be out here more than anything in the world. This isn’t by choice that I’m sitting in the training room or that I’m dealing with these little hiccups here and there. It’s definitely not by choice.”But the third-year tight end added that he wasn’t going to complain.“I’m not going to feel sorry for myself,” he said. “I’ll just put my head down and work and get back out there.”Butt said he has used journal writing to help him focus on the task at hand - getting back to football.“Everyone that’s known me my whole life knows how much this game means to me. It’s really not an option. I’m not going to quit,” he said, adding that he doesn’t think about the injuries when he’s on the field. “If I feel good, I’m not worried about anything. I felt good today. I’m running routes, playing hard off my left leg. Also, I’ve had two surgeries on my right [leg]. My right feels fine, my right feels great, so there’s no doubt I’m going to overcome this left one. It’s just taking a little bit more time than I’d like.” At fullback, a position not every team utilizes but one destined to be used by Scangarello, who came from the 49ers where fullback Kyle Juszczyk was a major part of the Niners game plan, the Broncos have one hope until Janovich can return - rookie George Aston.Fangio was non-committal on how likely it would be that Aston would make the roster Joe Flacco Jersey White , saying he still must prove he is “worthy of fulfilling that role” but did note Aston has been a nice surprise.“Yeah, he’s been a surprise guy coming as an undrafted free agent. There aren’t many fullbacks out there these days in college or pro football, so there’s not an abundance of them,” Fangio said Sunday. “I think he’s had a nice catch and run after the catch the other night. He’s got a chance.”That’s close to high praise from Fangio, and Aston realizes better than anybody that his job is still the same, whether he’s playing to make the practice squad or the final 53. In the meantime, he’ll take everything he has learned from Janovich and try to put it to good practice.“I’ve learned a lot,” Aston said about what he’s taken from Jano’s example and mentorship. “You get to this level, a lot of college ball and a lot of football up to this point, you think you know a lot about football, but just in a couple of weeks you learn so much about things you had no idea about. He’s been more than amazing to me. Any questions I have, he’s right there helping me out with anything I need. It’s been pretty cool.” On the defensive side of things, a pec injury to reserve inside linebacker Joe Jones makes him the third linebacker alongside Todd Davis and Josey Jewell to be sidelined. Jewell was practicing again Sunday, but Alexander Johnson, Josh Watson, Keishawn Bierria and Joe Dineen Jr. are going to need to step up while Davis continues recovery from a calf injury.Justin Hollins, who is currently learning/playing both inside and outside linebacker, could also help out.“I’ve seen good progression in that he’s learning two positions, which is hard. He’s shown that he can run and he’s got some athletic abilities, long and all that,” Fangio said. “He’s just got to develop the love of hitting people like linebackers in this league have to have.”Also helping matters at linebacker is the fact that safety Jamal Carter asked to switch to linebacker, likely looking at his chances of making the defensive back roster and figuring he could help out at a position in need of some strength.“I’ve been wanting to play this since high school and college,” Carter said Sunday after practice. “I like being in the trenches. I’m a physical specimen. I don’t like being too deep away from arms and contact. It’s going to fit me.”Fangio is still at wait-and-see mode but he’s giving Carter the shot he asked for.Right now, it’s temporary, but if he looks good in there it will be permanent,” the coach said. “Our numbers have gotten low there, and he’s always wanted to play in there, so the timing was good. He wants to be in there.”Horse TracksBroncos Day 15 camp report: George Aston's plate is fullAs the only healthy fullback on the roster, he will be busy with the offense during its team periods. SAN DIEGO (AP)Bobby Beathard loathed first-round draft picks and reveled in taking chances on players from out-of-the-way colleges. It was a formula that paid off with two victories in four trips to the Super Bowl as general manager of the Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers. He also loathes dressing up Womens Bryce Love Jersey , meaning the gold blazer he’ll wear when he’s inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame won’t get much use after Saturday night’s ceremony.”I don’t think I’ll be wearing it many places except there,” Beathard said. ”I don’t think I’ll be going out to dinner with that coat on.”That’s Beathard, 81, who always was more comfortable dressed as a Southern California beach bum. In jobs ranging from scout to general manager, he helped build seven Super Bowl teams for four franchises, including four winners, during a career lasting nearly four decades.Beathard was so low-key that when Kevin Gilbride was hired as Chargers coach in 1997 and insisted that everyone wear a coat and tie on road trips, even the GM, Beathard reached into his pocket on one trip and found an NFL schedule from 1989. That had been the last time he wore a blazer, when he worked on NBC’s pregame show.Beathard certainly didn’t need a blazer for scouting trips to small colleges, or to bodysurf in his beloved Pacific Ocean, run the Boston Marathon or have a few beers once a week with his buddies in Franklin, Tennessee, where he’s lived for several years. But he’ll have to wear one Saturday night. His presenter will be Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs, hired by Beathard with Washington before the 1981 season.”I would have had one of my sons but I think it was more appropriate to have Joe,” Beathard said. ”We spent a long time together.”Gibbs, inducted in 1996, coached the Redskins to victory in two of the three Super Bowls the Redskins reached in the 1980s. Those are the teams Beathard is best-remembered for building. He also built the San Diego Chargers’ only Super Bowl team, which was routed by San Francisco in the 1995 game.He began his career as a part-time scout for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1963 before leaving to scout in the AFL. He returned to the Chiefs in 1966, when they played in the first Super Bowl. In 1972, Beathard was hired as director of player personnel for the Miami Dolphins, who won consecutive Super Bowls. The Redskins hired him as GM in 1978 and he began doing things his way. He viewed first-round draft picks a commodity to be traded away to stockpile lower picks. He also worked the free agent market. In 1982, the Redskins team that won the Super Bowl included 27 free agents signed by Beathard since he was hired. In his 11 years in Washington, the Redskins used their first-round pick only three times. In 1988, Sports Illustrated called him ”The Smartest Man in the NFL.”Beathard didn’t like the title.”That was kind of embarrassing,” Beathard said. ”Whoever put that in there, I told them when it first came out, `Well, you better go back and ask my high school and college teachers if that’s true, and I don’t think they’d agree with that.’ ”Taking Beathard’s entire career as a whole, the label certainly fit.”If I ever got into that position, I had a plan how I wanted to do it and it wasn’t that the No. 1 draft pick was the most important thing,” Beathard said about becoming a GM. ”Every year we’d go out all year to all the colleges, scouting and looking at the players. And if it was a draft that was deep in talent I thought it was more valuable to get some of the later picks, because there were real good players down there, not only in the first round. If you had a high pick in the first round, trade that and get multiple picks where all the other players were. Fortunately it worked out for us. The only grief I got from it was from Darrell Green.”Of all his draft picks and free agent signings, Beathard said his favorite was Green, the 5-foot-8 defensive back from Texas A&I who was taken with the 28th pick overall – the last pick in the first round – of the 1983 draft. Green went on to a Hall of Fame career.”That doesn’t mean the other guys, the Art Monks, the Russ Grimms and the Jeff Bostics, all those other guys https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey , it doesn’t mean those weren’t just as important,” Beathard said. ”When we took Darrell Green, I’ll never forget the phone call. When I called Darrell he was down at Texas A&I and I called Darrell and said, `Hey Darrell, it’s Bobby; we took you.’ He got mad at me and said, `Why did you wait until last pick to take me?’ And I said, `The way the draft works, we won the Super Bowl so we had the last pick, so blame the other (27) teams that didn’t take you. Don’t blame us.”’Beathard left the Redskins in May 1989 and was out of the NFL only one season before being hired by the Chargers. His first draft pick was Junior Seau and the Chargers reached the Super Bowl five seasons later. Seau was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015.When he scouted colleges, Beathard, who retired in April 2000, said he’d look beyond the players recommended by coaches.”I traveled the whole country to every school that played football to look for players. I got to see the players personally, besides the scouting staff. I just had a lot of confidence in my evaluation. I wasn’t afraid to take players from small schools, or small players.”I think of Darrell Green, we had a little receiver, Alvin Garrett, guys that some teams thought we were crazy to take them because they were so small, but they were great players. I guess I was lucky to have a feel for some of these guys and had coaches who were willing to coach them.”His greatest influences were Don Shula and Al Davis.Beathard said his best memory is of the Dolphins’ undefeated 1972 season, ”but they were all memorable. Any time we made it to that last game, it meant that we were going to the Super Bowl. Those were always great memories.”— WASHINGTON (AP) — Dwayne Haskins learned patience from waiting behind J.T. Barrett at Ohio State that he could need to lean on before he becomes the Redskins‘ franchise quarterback.Selecting Haskins 15th overall gives Washington what it hopes to be a long-term solution at football’s most important position. Trading back up into the first round to get pass rusher Montez Sweat and taking receiver Terry McLaurin in the third and offensive linemen Wes Martin and Ross Pierschbacher on Day 3 of the NFL draft filled some serious immediate voids.“I know nothing’s going to be handed to me and I’m just looking forward to getting to camp and learning as much as I can and earning my spot,” Haskins said Saturday on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial. “I know the future is very important for this franchise, and I hope to be a big part of that.”Haskins will compete with veterans Case Keenum and Colt McCoy. Sweat will try to beat out third-year linebacker Ryan Anderson for a starting job and be a piece of replacing Preston Smith, who left for Green Bay in free agency.“I’m a very quick learner,” Sweat said. “I’m just ready to work how I can fit into the defense.”WHO THEY GOTAfter beefing up on the defensive line with back-to-back Alabama first-round picks Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne the past two years, the Redskins put a focus on giving coach Jay Gruden more to work with on offense. Haskins and McLaurin played together at Ohio State, third-round running back Bryce Love is a potential long-term value coming off a torn ACL, and Martin and Pierschbacher will try to beat out veteran offensive lineman Ereck Flowers for the starting left guard job.On Day 3, they also took North Carolina linebacker Cole Holcomb in the fifth round, big N.C. State receiver Kelvin Harmon in the sixth and James Madison cornerback Jimmy Moreland and Oklahoma State defensive end Jordan Brailford in the seventh. Six of their 10 picks were offensive players.SURPRISE MOVELove in the fourth round raised some questions given that Washington already has veteran Adrian Peterson, 2018 second-round pick Derrius Guice, 2017 fourth-rounder Samaje Perine and do-everything third-down back Chris Thompson. Love only caught 49 passes and had two receiving touchdowns in 49 games at Stanford; he’d like to be more of a dual threat in the NFL.“We had a lot of different options as an offense,” Love said. “Being able to go out and showcase that ability as well would definitely be big.”HOW THEY DIDBetter than expected after reports surfaced that owner Dan Snyder and President Bruce Allen had taken control of the first round. Snyder and up to get him because he fell in their lap and got someone they considered at No. 15 in Sweat at No. 26.“We felt like we had a good chance (Haskins) would fall to us without having to give up the farm to get him,” Gruden said. “Fortunately, that move paid off. Bruce did a great job, obviously (director of college scouting) Kyle Smith, Dan was in the room, for sure, and everybody’s on board.”WHAT’S NEXT?Finding a free safety to play alongside big-money free agent addition Landon Collins because Montae Nicholson’s status is uncertain after being arrested in December. Gruden said he expects Nicholson to be available and brought up 2018 draft pick Troy Apke and special-teams ace Deshazor Everett as internal options.“We have five pretty good safeties,” Gruden said, adding that another possibility is adding a college free agent safety. Beyond that, the Redskins will be content to let roster battles play out in training camp.
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin acknowledged his team's spotty track record in Oakland before the AFC North leaders headed west last week but added "it's not a major component of logistical preparation."Maybe JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey White , but history ended up repeating itself anyway in a 24-21 loss to the team tied with the worst record in the league on Sunday, one who has bailed on this season to build toward the future but found three hours of sustained competence while keeping Pittsburgh winless in Oakland this millennium. The Steelers (7-5-1) let the Raiders drive the length of the field twice for touchdowns in the fourth quarter, yielding much in the same way they did in the second half of a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers a week earlier. What seemed like a relatively easy path to a fifth straight playoff berth during a six-game winning streak has become decidedly more perilous."You can tell the whole locker room is sick," safety Sean Davis said. "We're just going to take it personal. Continue to work. Keep our heads up. We have three more guaranteed (games)."The only surefire way for Pittsburgh to earn the right to play into January is beat New England 鈥?something it's done just twice in the past 11 meetings 鈥?at home next Sunday, then topple NFC-leading New Orleans on the road before finishing up at Heinz Field against Cincinnati, which knows a thing or two about playing spoiler . Last season the Bengals stunned the Ravens on Andy Dalton's 49-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd on a fourth-and-12 play with 49 seconds left that sent the Bengals to a 31-27 win that kept Baltimore out of the playoffs and gave the Bills their first postseason appearance since 1999."We all need to look in the mirror and figure out what's going on," Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. "It starts with each individual. We have to look inside first."The view might not be particularly pretty at the moment 鈥?literally 鈥?for Roethlisberger. The 36-year-old spent most of the second half on the bench with an unspecified rib injury only to be forced back into action when the Raiders took the lead with just over five minutes to go. He went a perfect 6 for 6 on the ensuing drive, capping it with a 1-yard touchdown pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster.Roethlisberger 鈥?with more than a little help from Smith-Schuster 鈥?nearly pulled off a stunner when the Steelers ran a perfectly executed hook-and-lateral on the penultimate snap that put Pittsburgh easily within makeable field goal range for Chris Boswell.Roethlisberger finished 25 of 29 for 282 yards and two touchdowns, looking so fresh at the end that Tomlin's explanation that the team stuck with backup Josh Dobbs for four series because the Steelers were "in the flow of the game" seemed baffling."I was just waiting for coach to tell me when to go," said Roethlisberger, who expects to be ready to face the Patriots (9-4).The handling of Roethlisberger was just one of several ultimately dubious decisions by Tomlin, who opted not to call timeout with the Raiders driving in the final minute to make sure Roethlisberger had plenty of time to work with just in case the Raiders scored.Tomlin said he trusted his defense, one that has now allowed the game-winning score on long fourth-quarter drives in three successive weeks. In Denver, the Broncos went 79 yards in 11 plays after a James Conner fumble. The Chargers covered 64 yards in 11 plays to set up a chip-shot field goal as time expired. The Raiders moved 75 yards in eight plays, culminating in Derek Carr's 6-yard flip to Derek Carrier with 21 seconds to go."We didn't get off the field when we needed to," defensive tackle Cameron Heyward said. "Our offense kept us in the game. Even at the end they were moving the ball. We had a fourth-and-6, you can't ask for a better opportunity. It's a team game, but we have to get the stop right there."Still, the Steelers had a chance to push it to an extra period only to see Boswell's nightmarish season take another brutal twist.A Pro Bowler a year ago during a season in which he made three last-second game-winning kicks https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-juju-smith-schuster-jersey , Boswell's 40-yard attempt on the final play never had a chance. His left leg slipped on the always iffy turf at Oakland Coliseum and the ball smacked off the rear of an offensive lineman in front of him as Pittsburgh remained winless in Oakland since 1995.Boswell, who signed a contract extension that runs through 2022 in the offseason, has made just 10 of 16 field goals this season. His five missed extra points are also the most by any kicker that started on Sunday."I mean it's definitely a lot of heat on you, but it's not the first time in my life this has happened," Boswell said. "I just have to find a way through it."Boswell was talking about himself. He might as well have been talking about his team, one whose uneven year could end far sooner than anyone in the locker room anticipated."We just have to find a way to get a win," Heyward said. "I don't care who can play. It's unacceptable. You have to find a way to get over the hill, man." After a bout with cancer at the age of 31, I was told that conceiving children would be very difficult for me. 16 years later, I am grateful to boast two children (a nearly 12-year old boy and a 10-year old girl) that look a lot like me and share my idiosyncrasies and a third (my stepson) that I am proud to call my son. I’m also blessed to still have my dad, who, at age 24, thankfully started a lot earlier than I did. I already gave him his Father’s Day gift last week, but I didn’t think it was nearly good enough after the 47 years of love and encouraged that he’s granted me, so I decided to give him these printed words of thanks...but it’s still not even close to being enough. The man who fathered my dad, left his wife and four kids in 1951 when my dad was four. My grandmother scraped and clawed to barely make ends meet for her family, but the void left by this man was mammoth like the Grand Canyon or Casey Hampton. Thankfully, there were a couple of neighborhood dads who noticed and offered wisdom and support to this kid in the Moxham section of Johnstown T. J. Watt Jersey , PA. As appreciated as these father figures were, my dad still longed for his real father. One story that will forever hurt my heart, was an unisolated incident in which my grandfather phoned and promised to take all four kids to the movies. They eagerly awaited in anticipation on the porch, but he never arrived. No courtesy call, no apology, no rain check...just unadulterated heartbreak. After a Vietnam-Era stint in the Navy, it came time to have kids of his own. My mom bore him a daughter in 1968 and I appeared in December of 1971. My father had the opportunity to follow the same path of the aforementioned biological parent and become an absentee father, but instead he made a vow so sacred to his family, but most importantly to himself that he would be damned before he would ever inflict the emotional heartbreak that wounds, festers and never really heals on his wife and his children. To this very day, he’s never even come close to denting, let alone breaking, that vow as he’s been married to my mom for 52 years and is celebrating his 51st Fathers Day today. My dad had an amazing work ethic, but always found time to do stuff with his kids. He introduced the Steelers to me in the glory years of the 70s and we’ve always shared that bond. I recall one time in 1980 when Terry Bradshaw threw a last second pass to Lynn Swann for a come from behind walkoff against the Browns. My father leapt in the air like he was shot out of a cannon and bloodied his knuckles on our plastered ceiling. I was wondering why he was so excited from just a game. But soon he had infected me with the same over exuberance and I dwarf his accomplishments with my foolish and juvenile celebrations. Two days after my 11th birthday on December 5th, 1982, my dad surprised me with tickets to my first Steeler game. At Three Rivers that day, we saw Terry Bradshaw throw a 74-yard TD bomb to John Stallworth, Franco Harris score from a yard-out, Gary Anderson kick five extra points and Donnie Shell intercepting a pass. Seeing my heroes play was awesome Jerome Bettis Jersey White , but one thing I remember the most was my dad heroically helping a car out of a ditch on the way home. Other great memories from that day were my getting a Steelers 50th anniversary mug from Arby’s (which I still proudly have displayed in my fan cave), eating a hot dog in the upper level concourse while freezing and my dad refusing my request to take me to a bar called Froggy’s (the very same pub featured on NBC’s “This Is Us”) after I saw a plane fly over with a banner trailing behind advertising a Steelers party. The Steelers won 35-14 and I was hooked even more. There are too many father-son Steeler memories to mention like his teaching me never to cheer an opponent’s injury or to always wait for three zeros on the clock to celebrate. Also I can’t forget my shunning my buddies to come home from college every weekend with subs to watch the game with Dad, his kicking me out of the room briefly after berating Tim Worley through the television after a trip to the playoffs died when he fumbled (he teases me about that til this very day) and my getting to return the favor by taking him to a game in 1992 and his getting to sit in the press box. I made it a point to take my dad to a number of Steeler games every chance I got over the years and I know how proud he was to tell his buddies at work all about it. There were great wins and crushing defeats. But the box score never really mattered, it was the unbreakable bond of a little boy sharing a ballgame with his dad...no matter what year was on the calendar. I moved out in 1995 to start my adult life. I’ve had successes and failures over the years, but he has always found a way to tell me how proud he is of me, even if I screwed up. He still does. He’s my biggest cheerleader and biggest fan. Sometimes I feel like he’s way too biased and he gives me much more credit than I deserve. I realize that he’s so proud to keep that vow from so many years ago. But here is the truth of all truths. I’m not as great a son that he thinks I am and it’s his amazing treatment of me that has backfired on him. I think of the last part of Harry Chapin’s No. 1 hit from 1974, “Cats in the Cradle” when I think of how often I see my dad, which is no where near enough.I’ve long since retired and my son’s moved awayI called him up just the other dayI said, I’d like to see you if you don’t mindHe said, I’d love to, dad, if I could find the timeYou see, my new job’s a hassle, and the kids have the fluBut it’s sure nice talking to you, dadIt’s been sure nice talking to youAnd as I hung up the phone, it occurred to meHe’d grown up just like meMy boy was just like meAnd the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoonLittle boy blue and the man in the moon”When you coming home, son?” “I don’t know when”But we’ll get together then, dadWe’re gonna have a good time thenYou see, he taught me so much about how to be a father...that I want my kids to feel like me the way that I think of him. But even though I try to make time to see my parents James Conner Jersey White , it’s not enough and that’s something I’ve got to change. As I write this, I realize that 2018 was the first season in my lifetime that I didn’t watch a single game with my dad. We would talk afterwards on the phone, but that’s not good enough either.Last year I had the opportunity to go to Virginia to meet Terry Bradshaw at an autograph signing,I called up my dad and asked him to join me, which he seemed excited to do. We waited in line in anticipation of meeting the guy that we first bonded over all of those years ago. Bradshaw was very cordial, but something amazing happened when my father leaned in and told No. 12 that he was at Super Bowl XIV in 1980 and thanked him. “ and hard and said, “Man, that was a tough one”.I jumped in and jokingly explained that I was still mad at my dad for not taking me. “Why didn’t he take you?”, Terry asked. I explained that I was eight and he took my mom to Pasadena instead. The HOFer replied, “Hell son, I wouldn’t have taken you either”. Still joking, I mentioned that I still haven’t gotten over it. I’ll never forgot what Terry Bradshaw said next with a completely sincere look on his legendary face. He said, “Son, just be glad you still got him around”.I didn’t need Terry Bradshaw to remind me of how blessed I am, but I’m glad he did. Sharing the love for the Steelers always gave us talking points and great memories, but I’m a lucky guy to have all that I have and that’s definitely due to the dedication and love that I got from a man that never was blessed with the same infinite gifts that I was.Thank you, William Leonard Davis. I can’t wait to see you today. I love the Steelers, but I love you so much more. Happy Father’s Day.

Coach Jon Gruden found another former television analyst to help him on his rebuild of the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders hired former NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock as their new general manager on Monday.Gruden had been searching for a general manager after the team fired Reggie McKenzie earlier in a 4-12 season that ended with a 35-3 loss to Kansas City on Sunday. It was an underwhelming return to the sideline for Gruden Antonio Brown Jersey White , who got a 10-year, $100 million contract to return for a second stint in Oakland after spending nine seasons as an analyst at ESPN.Gruden inherited McKenzie, who won the 2016 NFL executive of the year award for his rebuilding job after the death of late owner Al Davis in 2011. The pairing didn’t work as Gruden frequently criticized McKenzie’s recent drafts and got rid of many of those players. Now the Raiders are hoping for a better working relationship between Gruden and Mayock, who was widely respected as a draft analyst since 2006 but now will be responsible for helping to make the picks.Mayock has no experience in an NFL front office but will work with Gruden on upgrading a scouting and personnel department that struggled to find impact players in recent years. The Raiders will have three first-round picks in April’s draft. Oakland has its own pick, which will be fourth in the draft, as well as first-rounders from Chicago and Dallas, which will be in the bottom 12 picks in the first round.Oakland acquired those picks by dealing McKenzie’s best two first-round picks from his seven-year tenure in Oakland. Star pass rusher Khalil Mack was traded to the Bears before the season for a package that included two first-round picks following a contract holdout, and receiver Amari Cooper was dealt during the season to the Cowboys for a 2019 first-rounder.Only 11 players drafted by McKenzie from 2012 to 2017 remain under contract with the Raiders, led by quarterback Derek Carr and right guard Gabe Jackson from the 2014 class, and 2016 first-round safety Karl Joseph and 2017 first-round cornerback Gareon Conley. The Raiders will have plenty of holes to fill this offseason following another disappointing campaign. Oakland has just one winning season in the past 16 years, going 12-4 under Jack Del Rio in 2016.But otherwise the team has experienced nothing but losing, posting the second-worst record in the NFL since the start of the 2003 season. in that stretch. The Raiders allowed their most points (467) in a season since 1961 and set marks for franchise worsts in sacks (13) and yards per play allowed (6.27) as the absence of an impact pass rusher like Mack was felt all season. The offense had its own problems as a line featuring rookie tackles Kolton Miller and Brandon Parker for most of the season failed to protect Carr. Oakland allowed 52 sacks, its most since 2006, and Carr often struggled to find the time to get the ball downfield. While Carr showed some signs of improvement late in the season as he grew more comfortable in Gruden’s system, the offense lacked playmakers on the outside and a game-breaking running back. The Raiders were barely competitive for much of the season, losing nine games by at least 14 points, tied for the most lopsided losses in the NFL since New England had 10 in 1990.Oakland was outscored by 177 points on the season, the second-worst mark in the NFL to Arizona.
The Mile High Report staff discussed what actually makes a quarterback a franchise guy for an NFL team."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Broncos NewsBroncos 2019 Draft ClassBroncos PodcastsBroncos 2019 ScheduleKey Offseason DatesCommunity RulesFull ArchiveBroncos StoriesScheduleRosterStatsOdds Shop About Masthead Community Guidelines StubHub ✕Roundtable: What makes a quarterback a“franchise guy?” New John Elway Jersey ,75commentsThe Mile High Report staff discussed what actually makes a quarterback a franchise guy for an NFL team. Roundtable: What makes a quarterback a“franchise guy?” It’s been awhile since the Broncos last had a true franchise guy. Kirby Lee-USA TODAY SportsHow do you define franchise quarterback? What would it take for Drew Lock or ____ to prove himself as “the guy”?Taylor: My personal definition of a franchise QB is “good enough that the team awards him a 4+ year 2nd contract at or near the top of the QB market”. My definition of a franchise QB makes determining that a necessarily long term thing, so in the shorter term “the guy” is the QB who the franchise’s hopes are resting on. In order to become “the guy”, Lock needs to either beat Flacco outright or otherwise replace him. I’d prefer it to be the former, because that’ll mean he’s really earned it.Right now the guys who fit my definition include Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Andy Dalton, Andrew Luck, Philip Rivers, Derek Carr, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, Drew Brees, Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson, and Jimmy Garoppolo.A few of those guys are teetering on the brink of falling out of franchise QB status. We’ll see what the future holds for guys like Andy Dalton, Eli Manning, and Derek Carr. And several others may retire soon. But as odd as a couple of those names look on the list considering their context, I judge whether a guy is a “franchise QB” or not based on the team’s long term, substantial commitment to him (or lack thereof) after having observed him in the league for a couple of years.Kyle B: Goff and Mahomes also came to mind.Joe M: I define franchise QB as a QB who can consistently win games with his arm even under adverse conditions like poor OL play, poor running game and limited talent at receiver. Franchise QBs are the QBs that you can’t stop, you can only really contain. A true franchise QB elevates the play of those around him.Ian: In other words, “Elite!”Kyle: My personal definition of a QB is a leader that can walk through fire with the same confidence and grit that separates the greatest American war heroes. Someone you can trust in, and someone you would lay your life on the line for in the hopes that this particular starting QB can help you achieve your wildest dreams. It would take a Joe Flacco injury which is likelyIt doesn’t sound like Kyle believes Flacco can become “the guy” for Denver. Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY SportsJoRo: For me there’s two big things a signal caller must do to reach “Franchise QB” status.1. His play needs to become consistently good enough that his team is no longer desperately searching for a better option to replace him. While every team wants a top 10 quarterback, in reality there are a lot of starting signal callers that are hovering around league average at the position.I would say the Colts, Saints, Chiefs, Seahawks, Steelers, Patriots, Falcons, Packers, Chargers, Lions, Texans Womens Joe Flacco Jersey , Panthers, Rams, Eagles, Browns, and Cowboys believe they have franchise quarterbacks. Things could change if Prescott or Wentz get hurt, or if one of the older guys begins a significant decline, however. In that same vein: the Panthers, Vikings, 49ers, Buccaneers, Titans, Bengals, Ravens, Bears, Bills, Jets, Jaguars, Cardinals, Washington, and Raiders are committed to guys they hope can be “franchise guys” into the foreseeable future. Some of those hopes look more foolish than others.Which brings me to the other aspect that defines a true franchise quarterback in my mind: 2. He’s a guy you can win “because of” rather than in spite of. It’s much smaller group and those are the guys you happily commit a big chunk of your cap to. It’s why there was so much chatter around the NFL when rumors surfaced that Seattle and Russell Wilson may be heading for a split. He’s the spoon that stirs the drink in the Pacific Northwest. A true franchise guy is worth the money in part because he covers up for some of the shortcomings elsewhere on the roster. Peyton Manning is the most infamous of these, as everyone remembers the Colts going from 10-6 in 2010 to 2-14 without him in 2011. The supporting cast is important, but you only have to look at what Tom Brady has done with mostly spare parts and role players to appreciate what he’s meant to the Patriots system for so long.Gun to my head I would say there’s currently 12 true franchise guys in the league: Mahomes, Luck, Brees, Roethlisberger, Ryan, Rodgers, Rivers, Wilson, Watson, Wentz and Mayfield. Adam: This is my definition of a franchise quarterback.Adam holds QBs to a pretty high standard. Ian: I’m with Adam and Joe Mahoney. Franchise quarterbacks are rare, top of the shelf, you know it when you see it. As with Peyton Freaking Manning, they raise all boats. Or in this sense, raise the franchise. Regardless of the circumstances or talent, they win.Jeff: I would define a franchise QB as a guy who you can win because of Joe Flacco Jersey White , not just with or in spite of.I slightly disagree with the “raise all boats” notion, because, while true to an extent, it sets expectations that if you’re “good enough” or “elite enough” you don’t need the additional support around you to win. That kind of thinking is what leads to terrible drafting and roster building around guys like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers for the bulk of their careers. And it’s a tricky balance between a guy who could look the part if they had just a little more support, and a guy who is needing to be propped up his entire career. The ultimate litmus test then, may be, if you’re down four in the 4th quarter and have two minutes and 80 yards to go, is he a guy that says “gimme the damn ball” and marches down for the win? Or, does your heart sink when you get into a situation like that, or maybe a tough playoff game, because you know he’ll never be the guy who’s going to win it for you.To the question on Lock, I think he has to show those kind of traits and do it over time. Regardless of what happens, I don’t think you can definitively answer that question this year or even next year. What do you think Broncos Country? On Thursday night, John Elway gave no thought to picking a quarterback at No. 10 (when he traded down) or No. 20. On Friday night, Elway changed his thinking. And quarterback Joe Flacco may not think much of that. For the second straight year, Flacco becomes the veteran who inevitably will be supplanted by a rookie. In 2018, the Ravens took Lamar Jackson with the last pick in the first round. In 2019, the Broncos nabbed Drew Lock with pick No. 42.“I don’t really care about whether they take a quarterback or not,” Flacco said recently. “Whether it’s 10 or whatnot, the only thing I care about is, like I said, I want this team to be as good as they can with me at quarterback. If we feel like as a team and an organization that we can add value to our team at the 10th pick, then I’m all for getting a guy that can add value to the team with me as the understood quarterback. ”He’d reiterate that cliche later in the same set of comments.“It is what it is,” Flacco said. “I want to get this team to be the best it is with me at quarterback position. Obviously, that is not of most importance to draft a quarterback. But if we do, that’s completely out of my control. I’m going to go out here, and I’m going to compete, and he’s going to have to come out here and be on the field with me every day, too. I’m all ready for that.”As of earlier tonight, what it is is that the Broncos have indeed added Drew Lock. And while the Broncos may not feel compelled to rush Lock into the lineup, any injury to Flacco that opens the door for Lock could in turn give Lock a chance to keep the job, like Jackson did a year ago.

The wait for an Antonio Brown interview lingers Terrell Edmunds Jersey White , but Steelers owner Art Rooney II has taken some time out to address the wideout’s situation for the second time in a week.Rooney said last week that it is “hard to envision” Brown returning to the team for the 2019 season after he was benched for the final game of the regular season in the wake of missed practices and incidents with other members of the team. Rooney spoke with local reporters again on Wednesday and the message hasn’t changed.Rooney said, via Ed Bouchette of the , that no trade talks regarding Brown have happened yet and left the door open for a reconciliation, but there are “not that many signs out there that that’s going to happen.” One sign of a potential thaw would be a conversation with Brown, but Rooney said that he has not spoken to the receiver since the end of the season.Despite the team’s unhappiness with Brown’s behavior, Rooney said that the team paid Brown for the final week of the regular season.“He probably did what he needed to do to avoid his last check being voided,” Rooney said. The question of who will be issuing Brown’s next check will continue to be a major storyline as the offseason fully unfolds around the NFL. The Steelers also traded their seventh round selection to the Cleveland Browns as part of a deal for Sammie Coates that saw them receive a sixth round draft pick in 2018. Their seventh round selection this year comes from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as part of the trade for J.J. Wilcox in 2017. The Steelers extra sixth-round pick (No.175 overall) comes as part of the trade for Ryan Switzer in 2018 that saw them send their 2019 fifth-round pick to Oakland in return. That selection has since been traded by the Raiders to the Buffalo Bills.Who will the Steelers draft? With the selection of an inside linebacker in round one, it would be safe to say that we can take that position off the board for rounds two and three. And looking at the list of names the Steelers have met with this offseason, there are one or two players we should cross off the list too after they found new homes in the first-round.
A win in week 14 didn’t hurt the Raiders draft much. Mainly because the 49ers also won Derek Carr Jersey White , so the Raiders only fell one spot. And with a loss to the Bengals last week, the Raiders are right back where they were a few weeks ago — in line for the second overall pick. Except this time, it’s the Cardinals who stand in the way.Like the 49ers, should the Cardinals have the top pick, they aren’t going with a quarterback. That puts them as most likely to take Nick Bosa, the draft’s top pass rusher. He would likely be the Raiders selection as well should he be on the board. If they have any hopes of getting that top pick, the Cardinals would need to win a game. The odds of that win coming this week is slim to none. They face the Rams who are arguably the best team in football.Looking at it another way, you could think about how far the Raiders could fall should they themselves win. Should the Raiders win Monday over the Broncos, they would still be in line for a top five pick. And even if the Raiders win out, they can do no worse than the 10th overall pick.As for their other two first round picks, they are currently in the mid 20s. This time they play the Chicago Bears at Tottenham Hostpur Stadium. It’s also the second time in two seasons under head coach Jon Gruden they’ve played in London. The first time didn’t go so well. With these international games, you have two choices — to acclimate or not to acclimate. This goes for the game in Mexico City as well. You may recall when the Raiders faced the Patriots in Mexico City in 2017, the Patriots decided to play the Broncos at Mile High the week before to attempt to acclimate to the extreme Mexico City elevation, while the Raiders chose to fly in a and fly out quickly so the thin air didn’t affect them as much. The Raiders lost the game, but probably more because the Patriots were a better team than any acclimation issues. There are schools of thought for both. That quick in and out schedule was what the Raiders did in London last year. Then they went out and played flat against the Seahawks, losing 27-3. Cornerback Daryl Worley recalls how difficult it was to make the long flight the day before a game.“I feel like the short turnaround last year might have took a toll on some guys bodies compared to being able to have a lot more time to unwind,” said Worley. “Not so much of being a tourist, but just having that body to be able to be fully adjusted going into a game on Sunday.”Gruden listened to his players on this one. So, he had the Raiders scheduled to play in Indianapolis the week before and will leave immediately afterward to make for a shorter flight, easier time change, and longer recovery from the flight before the game.“I probably won’t do what I did last year Bo Jackson Jersey ,” said Gruden. “You try to research it, some people go and try to stay the least amount of time as possible because they want to put the preparation in at home and not be in a foreign country, in a different bed for five or six nights, but this year I think we will probably go over after that game (at Indianapolis Colts) and get acclimated to the time zone and get ready for Chicago, but will address that here in the next couple months.”You might also recall this is what the Raiders did with their first trip to London. They played in New England and left straight from there to old England. They played the Dolphins and the result wasn’t much better. They lost 38-14 to the Dolphins. Though, to be fair, that was the fourth loss for a team featuring rookie QB Derek Carr who got injured, the team fired Dennis Allen the day after the game, and would go 0-10 before getting their first win.Not sure there’s much proof one way or the other which plan works better. But Gruden has tried one, so he’s now going to try the other.Follow @LeviDamien
ENGLEWOOD Royce Freeman Jersey White , Colo. (AP)Now that Von Miller has his new pass rushing partner, John Elway knows he needs to give Case Keenum and Demaryius Thomas some help on offense. defensive player in the NFL draft Thursday night when North Carolina State defensive end Bradley Chubb fell to Denver at No. 5.A stunned Elway said “zero” of his mock draft scenarios had Chubb falling into his lap to the thrill of superstar Von Miller and giving coach Vance Joseph the ultimate problem for a coach: an abundance of pass rushers.Chubb will play outside linebacker in Denver where he’s expected to immediately upgrade a defense that ranked third last season but surrendered a whopping 29 TD passes. The Broncos own three more picks in the top 100, including the 40th overall selection in the second round and a pair of third-rounders Friday.Elway, who signed Keenum in free agency last month, needs more playmakers for an anemic offense. He has said he’ll target a running back after releasing C.J. Anderson.— With an adjusted contract finally in hand, Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. looks forward to getting to work soon. And to becoming in time to becoming the highest-paid player at his position.“I’m ready to roll Courtland Sutton Jersey White ,” Harris told Mike Klis of 9News.com. “I’m ready to get back with the team and start working on the camaraderie with my teammates.”Harris seems to be satisfied with a deal that bumped his 2019 payout from $8.8 million to $12.05 million, and he’s also determined to cash in when March rolls around.“I’m the fourth cornerback this year [in 2019 cash] and after this season I’ll hit free agency and be No. 1,” Harris said.Washington cornerback Josh Norman has been the highest-paid cornerback (in terms of contract value at signing) for four years. It’s surprising that no one has passed his $15 million annual average. Harris, whose next contract will be a brand-new deal and not an extension, has a chance to do it — especially since the salary cap will have gone up by well over $40 million since Norman did his deal. For now, Harris bypasses Kareem Jackson ($11 million per year Joe Flacco Jersey , $12 million cash payout in 2019), who signed a three-year contract with the Broncos during 2019 free agency.“I just wanted to be the highest-paid cornerback on the team,” Harris told Klis. “It had nothing to do with Kareem. I just thought I deserved to be the No. 1 corner on the team. Nothing against Kareem.”Nothing against Kareem, other than the fact that Kareem is the guy Harris had to leapfrog. For his next trick, Harris will try to hurdle Norman.
Former NFL cornerback Champ Bailey will enter the Hall of Fame this year. He’ll also enter the Denver Broncos’ Ring of Fame. The team announced on Monday that Bailey will become the 33rd member of the team’s Ring of Fame.“It comes as no surprise that Champ has been voted into the Broncos’ Ring of Fame in his first year of eligibility https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey ,” Broncos President & CEO Joe Ellis said in a statement. “Not only did he make so many incredible plays as a Bronco, but the consistency and leadership he brought to this organization for 10 seasons as a perennial All-Pro was second-to-none.“To see the way Champ’s career has been appreciated over the last four months — first by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and now as our newest Ring of Famer — is very special for us. We congratulate Champ on this well-deserved honor and look forward to celebrating everything he’s meant to the Broncos in October.”Drafted by Washington in 1999, Bailey arrived in Denver via a trade for running back Clinton Portis in 2004, and Bailey remained in Denver for a full decade. He gained enshrinement in the Hall of Fame on his first try.In Final Preseason Tuneup, Redskins Fall To Ravens 30-20 In their final contest prior the 2018 regular season, the Redskins fell to 1-3 on the preseason in a 30-20 decision to their regional rival, the Baltimore Ravens. In a game that featured virtually none of the presumptive starters for either team, all of the players were seemingly making their respective cases for a spot on the opening day roster. The Redskins have had a logjam at a number of positions including running back, defensive back, linebacker, and wide receiver.Several of the Mason/Brennan nominees saw significant playing time on both sides of the ball in what for several of them could very well be their last chance to suit up for the Redskins. With Chris Thompson and Adrian Peterson all but secured on the opening day 53-man roster, tonight’s game was an opportunity for Rob Kelley, Samaje Perine, Kapri Bibbs, De’Veon Smith and Byron Marshall (who did not suit up due to injury) to vie for what could be just one or two open tailback spots. Kelley led the way with 49 yards on 11 carries, and saw the majority of snaps in the first half. Smith chipped in with 7 rushes for 42 yards, while Perine finished with 30 yards on 7 attempts. One of the more late-breaking competitions this preseason came between Kevin Hogan and new addition Connor Jessop Montez Sweat Jersey , who joined the squad following Colt McCoy’s early departure against Denver. Hogan played the entire game and posted a stat line of 22-for-38, 272 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Both young quarterbacks have strong local ties and would certainly be intriguing options should the Redskins opt to keep three quarterbacks.A footnote in the quarterback department: Robert Griffin III similarly worked to earn himself a roster spot in Baltimore alongside Joe Flacco and rookie phenom and fellow former Heisman winner Lamar Jackson. The former Redskins’ rookie did not play in the contest, raising the question of whether he has already done enough to earn his spot on the team. Meanwhile Jackson finished the evening with 109 yards passing and 25 yards on the ground including a touchdown. On defense, Zach Vigil and Shaun Dion-Hamilton both had impressive showings as they sought to earn spots in what is likely a contest with Martrell Spaight and Josh Harvey-Clemons. Dion-Hamilton was the statistical leader in the group against the Ravens, racking up seven tackles including one for a loss.econdary struggled mightily, allowing long plays through the air and struggling to make open field tackles. This was a troubling trend that extended into their game tonight. Against the Ravens Troy Apke ended up with just one solo tackle, while Greg Stroman may have done enough in coverage to outpace Quin Blanding, Danny Johnson, and Kenny Ladler. Now that the preseason games are in the books it’s time for the front office to make some challenging decisions for who stays and who goes. While they won’t ever openly admit to having your opinions affect their decisions, we certainly want to know what your final thoughts are as we prepare to put a bow on the 2018 preseason.Which player do you think helped himself out the most in stating his case against Baltimore? Conversely, who hurt himself the most with a lackluster performance? If you were calling the shots, who would be the 53rd man to receive a locker on day one? Also, after seeing Hogan’s complete performance tonight, did he do enough to convince the Redskins to keep three quarterbacks? Throw what you know in the comments below!
CINCINNATI (AP) — Ben Roethlisberger saw the defensive alignment and knew immediately that the Pittsburgh Steelers had a chance for a winning touchdown. All he had to do was get the ball to Antonio Brown right away.Brown took a few strides Jerome Bettis Jersey White , caught the pass and ran behind Justin Hunter’s block for a 31-yard touchdown with 10 seconds left Sunday and yet another improbable — and entirely predictable — victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers’ 28-21 win made it eight straight and counting over their AFC North rival.“We’ve been in that situation a lot, and I knew we were going to do it,” Brown said. They always do.James Conner ran for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the eve of Le’Veon Bell’s possible return to help the Steelers (3-2-1) get ahead, but they had to pull off their third last-minute rally at Paul Brown Stadium to extend the streak.Joe Mixon’s 4-yard touchdown run with 1:18 got the Bengals (4-2) thinking they might finally have their breakthrough. Roethlisberger and the Steelers stunned them again.Big Ben came to the line on the decisive play and saw that the Bengals were set for an all-out blitz with no safeties to guard against a big play. He immediately thought touchdown.“When you see that look, it’s how fast can I get him the ball,” said Roethlisberger, who is 14-2 in his career at Paul Brown Stadium.Brown caught the ball in stride, cut Hunter’s block and outran the secondary for the winning score James Conner Jersey White , leaving thousands of Steelers fans twirling their towels in the stands while stunned Bengals fans stood and watched a familiar ending. The Bengals are 2-16 against the Steelers at Paul Brown Stadium during coach Marvin Lewis’ 16 seasons, including a pair of playoff losses.“Imagine how we feel,” Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick said. “I imagine how the fans feel.”These Ohio River rivalry games are usually nasty, and this one had its moments. After Andy Dalton’s final pass fell complete, several players got into a scuffle in front of the Cincinnati sideline. After a sloppy September, the Steelers have won two in a row and found their stride behind Conner , who became the featured back when Bell decided to hold out. Conner has run for more than 100 yards in each of the last two games, and his pair of 1-yard touchdown runs Sunday put him in the company of a pair of Steelers Hall of Famers.Conner has seven rushing touchdowns in six games Womens Jerome Bettis Jersey , joining Franco Harris (1976) and Jerome Bettis (2004) as the only Steelers with that accomplishment.“James was a bowling ball today,” said Roethlisberger, who joked that it was probably the running back’s final game amid reports that Bell would return.JuJu Smith-Schuster had a spectacular catch — leaping over cornerback Darqueze Dennard and taking the ball way — that set up Conner’s second touchdown.Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd had a solid game against his hometown team, catching touchdowns of 2 and 14 yards .Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict was in the middle of several dustups. He had words with Roethlisberger only 3 minutes into the game. He stepped over Conner on the running back’s first touchdown, prompting a teammate to push him away before the situation could escalate.Burfict also hit Brown in the head — he wasn’t penalized — after a catch, causing the receiver to leave for a couple of plays. In 2015, Burfict’s hit to Brown’s head helped the Steelers rally for an 18-16 playoff win. On Sunday, Burfict yelled at a reporter in the locker room after the game for asking a teammate about the latest hit on Brown’s head.“A nasty hit Jerome Bettis Jersey ,” Brown said.SHAZIER’S RETURNSteelers linebacker Ryan Shazier returned to the stadium where he suffered a spinal injury last December. He’s been on the sideline for games this season. His return to Paul Brown Stadium was emotional for all the Steelers.“He’s inspired us,” coach Mike Tomlin said. “Hopefully he’s inspired many outside of us.”DALTON MOVES UPDalton finished 26 of 42 for 229 yards, moving ahead of Boomer Esiason for second on the Bengals’ career passing list behind Ken Anderson. Dalton fell to 3-12 against the Steelers.INJURIESBengals: RB Giovani Bernard missed a second straight game with a knee injury. LB Nick Vigil left with an injured left knee in the first quarter. Dennard hurt his right shoulder on Smith-Schuster’s catch and didn’t return. S Shawn Williams left in the second half with a concussion.UP NEXTSteelers: Have their bye week.Bengals: Play Sunday night at Kansas City. The Bengals are 0-5 on Sunday night since 2011. Donte Moncrief‘s first game with the Pittsburgh Steelers is one he would like to forget as soon as possible.Moncrief managed just three catches on 10 targets in Sunday night’s regular season opener against the New England Patriots. His three catches netted just seven yards and Moncrief had a handful of passes hit his hands that he was unable to secure, including a fourth-and-one conversion and a potential touchdown.“It’s sickening when you watch it and you know the plays that you’re supposed to make and you didn’t make them,” Moncrief said, via Mike Prisuta of the team’s website. “And you see them and you’re like, ‘Gosh, I know I gotta make that.’ The other day James Conner Jersey , after we watched that film, there was a feeling in my stomach, it hurt. I went home, went straight to sleep, it hurt me. I had to put that away.“That was my first one like that, that was a bad one. It hurt, but at the end of the day it’s the NFL, all you can do is get better the next day. You gotta bounce back. You can’t let it hold you down.”the outcome of the game against New England https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey , but it still wasn’t the best first impression to leave either. Moncrief has been dealing with a dislocated middle finger since early in training camp but he wouldn’t use that as a crutch for the dropped passes against the Patriots. The ten targets Moncrief saw in New England were the most of any Steelers’ receiver. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he’s not altering his approach with Moncrief due to one shaky outing.Moncrief is looking to bounce back this week against the Seattle Seahawks, who only allowed 20 points to the Cincinnati Bengals last week but saw Andy Dalton throw for over 400 yards on 51 attempts.“He believes in me,” Moncrief said of Roethlisberger. “He knows what I can do. I know what I can do. At the end of the day that was my worst game ever in my career, and it hurt.“But you can’t just sit there and just pout about it. You gotta get better, and that’s what I’m doing.”

The big blocking tight end had spent his first four seasons in Buffalo before landing a free agent deal with the Raiders prior to the 2015 season. Now he is returning to Buffalo to finish his career where it started. The 31-year-old signed a three-year deal to return to Buffalo where Bills fans will undoubtedly welcome back his hard nosed, play-through-the-whistle style. At 6-6, 269 pounds, Smith made other tight ends look like regular sized humans when he stood near them. The was a brute of a man and he gets paid to throw that weight around on the field, tossing potential tacklers around to open holes for running backs and give his quarterback time to throw the ball.Smith was a defender of his quarterback off the field as well as the most vocal defender of Derek Carr when Carr was receiving some harsh criticisms last season. You won’t find a more team oriented guy than Lee Smith. He took a restructured deal prior to the 2017 season, the final season of his original 3-year deal with the Raiders. Then he was lost to injury four weeks in and re-signed to the team on a friendly 1-year deal to return last season. The Bills and their fans are lucky to have him back. Follow @LeviDamien On April Fool’s Day, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr apparently was in no mood for joking. On the same day coach Jon Gruden, who has publicly pledged allegiance to Carr, worked out quarterback Kyler Murray — and a day before Gruden was due to work out quarterback Dwayne Haskins — Carr tweeted without comment a photo of himself doing the Robert DeNiro “watching you” gesture. Many have connected Carr’s tweet to the team’s due diligence Antonio Brown Jersey White , a very public gesture that should, if Carr truly is bothered by the situation, include a private effort by Carr to ask Gruden directly what he’s trying to do in kicking tires on Murray and Haskins. Maybe Gruden is simply evaluating the players so that, if the opportunity to trade down presents itself, he’ll be able to make a persuasive argument for getting more than the team looking to move up may offer.Of course, what Gruden says to Carr may not matter much. He had a reputation among Buccaneers players of saying one thing and doing another, and Gruden has every right to fully and completely support Carr until the moment Gruden no longer does. That’s what plenty of other coaches and teams routinely do.Gruden didn’t pick Carr. Gruden inherited Carr. And Gruden is trying to make it work. Gruden needs to make decisions in the best interests of the team. If that means making a decision to move on from Carr (or, for now, drafting his eventual replacement), that’s what Gruden needs to do.

Chris Harris Jr. is the fourth most valuable BroncoHave we seen the last of Harris in Broncos orange and blue?Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY SportsSo after a long break for free agency and the draft, it’s time to turn our attention back to the Most Valuable Broncos. The scheme changes, draft, and free agency may change some of the final list. Remember that this is as much art as science, but to be as transparent as possible, I wanted to lay out how I made my list. There are three main aspects I considered:1. Value to the 2018 team and past performance.2. Positional value3. Salary compared to both past & expected future performance. All three factors are important, but obviously this isn’t an exact science, so I look forward to seeing how Broncos Country disagrees with me.Check out players 45-35 here.Check out players 25-34 here.Check out players 16-24 here.Check out players 7-15 here.Check out #6 here.Check out #5 here. This one may come as a bit of a shocker. I’ll admit on my initial MVB list back in January I had Chris Harris as high as number 2. However, the current uncertainty over Harris’ long-term status with the Broncos and rumors that he would net something as low as a 2020 third round pick in a trade hurts his ranking. I mean this not as a slight to Harris the player, who remains the second best player on the Broncos by a considerable margin, it’s just that every little thing matters this far down the MVB list. What about Harris on the field? If Chris Harris Jr. is not, in fact, the best corner in the league, he is on a very short list. One of the things that immediately stands out when watching his tape is how the Broncos have used him up until now. In 4 of the 5 games I watched for this study, he is primarily the slot corner whenever the Broncos are in nickel personnel. At the same time, when Vance Joseph and Joe Woods called for base personnel, he played outside. At first glance, this seems simple, but there’s a reason so few corners do it.A nickel corner has to be able to defend both the inside and outside route trees, as there is no sideline to use as a crutch. Oftentimes they will have real run responsibilities because of positioning. In the 2018 Broncos scheme, the nickel was often tasked with straight man to man coverage, as Woods and Joseph utilized a heavy dose of cover 1. That meant Chris Harris rarely had help in his assignments. With how offenses have begun to move all sorts of different pass catchers into the slot, that may mean covering someone like Keenen Allen on one snap and Travis Kelce on the next. When tasked with outside responsibility Von Miller Jersey White , the job doesn’t become any easier, just different. Deeper routes become a much bigger threat and Harris had to run with his assignment farther downfield. That required him to be able to open up and run with guys like A.J. Green, Tyrell Williams, Tyreek Hill, and Brandon Cooks. One of the things that makes CHJ so special is how he can lock up receivers of all shapes and sizes. Plays like this one really show how special CHJ is. He’s giving up 7 inches and about 60 lbs to Travis Kelce, but remains on him like a fly on poo and bats down the pass against a receiver who caught almost 70% of his targets last year. That’s special. One of the things I hope to do as I continue writing GIF Horse is break down what a player does down to positional traits. It isn’t enough to say that Chris Harris is good. Anyone with eyes knows that. Beyond his versatility, where does he shine brightest?Route RecognitionYou won’t survive long in the slot if you can’t learn to anticipate what opposing receivers are trying to do to you. Because there’s so many possible outcomes, a player has to become adept at reading his opponent. Harris has been doing it so long it looks like second nature to him. Take this play against the Steelers, for example:This play has been forgotten because of another of Harris’ interceptions, but the Broncos don’t beat Pittsburgh if this goes any other way.Now take a second to really look at what Harris saw when he broke on the ball, knowing that Ben Roethlisberger was going to throw to Antonio Brown:That’s just the most stark example I’ve come across, mind you. There’s plenty of times Harris does this same thing and it doesn’t end in an interception. What’s more important to keep in mind is how this ability to anticipate plays will translate to a Fangio defense that asks corners to play with their eyes on the action rather than turning to run with their assignments. If the pass rush can threaten opposing quarterbacks like it did in 2018, Harris could easily surpass his 3 interceptions from a year ago.TacklingIt isn’t an exaggeration to say that Chris Harris Jr. was one of the better tacklers on the Broncos a year ago. In fact, prior to Elway’s decision to sign Kareem Jackson there had long been speculation that Harris could eventually move to safety if need be in order to prolong his NFL career. I have my doubts he’ll ever need to, but one reason that could make sense for him as he ages is the fact that he’s both strong against the run when called upon and such a fundamentally sound tackler. There aren’t many corners who play the ball carrier as well as Harris.AthleticismIt is fair to wonder if Harris will start to show signs of his years in the league. As others have repeated time and again this off-season, he isn’t 25 anymore. That said, he shows few signs of a decline on tape. In the games I’ve studied, he has elite hip fluidity and enough long speed to keep up with the Rams’ Brandon Cooks 40 yards down the field. Click and close is something you often hear about cornerbacks come draft time, and what it really refers to is a player’s ability to both diagnose (click= recognition) and react (close= athleticism to make a play) to the action going on in front of them. Harris’ advanced ability to click and close is extremely rare in NFL history. It’s one reason I’ve long considered him Hall of Fame talent.Harris is a very rare talent. The Fangio DefenseOne of my big questions as I started watching Harris last week is how his skills will translate to a new system. Under both Wade Phillips and Vance Joseph, the defense has been one of the more man-heavy systems in the league. It’s one reason arguments about the No-Fly Zone being every bit the Legion of Boom’s equal should include scheme and assignments. I wondered if moving to more zone coverage would dull one of the sharper edges Harris has over most other corners in the league. I strongly advise you look to Jeffery Essary’s article later this week for an in-depth look at that, but I’m inclined to say no. As I mentioned earlier, giving Harris more opportunities to make plays on the ball in the air should provide him more opportunities to show two of the biggest strengths of his game. It will also help him and the rest of the secondary against trips formations, motion Royce Freeman Jersey , and pick plays. All were issues in the games I watched from 2018.In both KC games, Andy Reid outfoxed Vance Joseph, neutralizing Harris for the most part.Plays like this really illustrate the limitations of the old Broncos system. Harris is one of the best slot coverage guys in the league, so Andy Reid made Hill a decoy, motioning him into the backfield and sending him out in the flat. This isolated Shane Ray, who Patrick Mahomes was more than happy to attack in coverage. The end result is the Broncos giving up a huge play because Hunt is wide open. Of course plays like this can happen against elite offenses, but the problem far too often comes down to the lack of adjustments in place for what should have been expected in the 2018 D. That’s a coaching failure more than anything else.Contract NumbersIf you haven’t read this exceptional piece by MHR’s Ozark Orange, you should take a long look at it. We’re in pretty close agreement on a fair deal to Chris Harris that would minimize the Broncos long term risk. High dollar cornerback contracts and the Chris Harris Jr. conundrum - Mile High ReportReports late last week suggested the Broncos may be leaning towards a 2019 pay bump for Harris and allowing him to enter unrestricted free agency in 2020. My perspective on this is a bit skewed, admittedly. Harris’ contract is one of the more underrated reasons for the formation of the No Fly Zone, as Elway had the cap space to add Aqib Talib, DeMarcus Ware, and T.J. Ward’s contracts. The 5-year, $42 M extension has long been considered one of the biggest bargains in the league. I don’t fault him at all for seeking out fair compensation and I believe he deserves it. It also seems the 2019 pay bump is as much a gesture of good will as anything else. Some have criticized it on social media, but if the Broncos are able to make the cap math work, I think it sends a message that resonates far deeper than the deal alone would. What concerns me is what all this means for the future Ring of Famer in 2020 and beyond. As I said in my opening statement, there is no doubt in my mind he’s the second best player on this Broncos roster. Here’s hoping Elway finds a way help him retire without ever donning another team’s jersey. Former NFL cornerback Champ Bailey will enter the Hall of Fame this year. He’ll also enter the Denver Broncos’ Ring of Fame. The team announced on Monday that Bailey will become the 33rd member of the team’s Ring of Fame.“It comes as no surprise that Champ has been voted into the Broncos’ Ring of Fame in his first year of eligibility,” Broncos President & CEO Joe Ellis said in a statement.
