Thursday, KU announced a new number for one returning player and the numbers for KU s 2019 incoming class. The following slides will include rundowns of each player and the jersey numbers they ll be wearing for the upcoming season...
Devon Dotson will wear a new number for his sophomore season. Dotson wore No. 11 during his freshman year but will make the switch to No. 1 for his second campaign with the Jayhawks. Dedric Lawson wore the number last season and averaged just over 19 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Dotson had previously told reporters he was making the switch to a new number. He tested the NBA Draft waters following the season but ultimately made the decision to return to the Jayhawks for his sophomore campaign. He is among the Big 12 s top returning players and should be expected to start every game.
Christian Braun signed with Kansas back in November and is poised to make an impact his freshman year.
Braun is a three star recruit out of Blue Valley Northwest and was the No. 30 ranked small forward in the country and No. 4 ranked player out of the state of Kansas.
247Sports Brian Snow offered this evaluation of Braun s game.
A good athlete on the wing with solid length and versatility. Has improved greatly throughout his high school career. He is at his best as a shot maker from deep. Given his length and athleticism https://www.kansasjayhawksshop.com/udoka-azubuike-jersey-c-14.html, his ability to shoot makes him dangerous on the wing when surrounded by drivers. Braun can also attack a closeout, and is getting better at finishing through contact. While he might not start right away, Braun should develop into a quality contributor in college.
Recently, Braun talked about the prospects of playing under coach Bill Self.
Isaiah Moss comes to KU by way of a graduate transfer. Moss redshirted a year and played three at the University of Iowa. In his time there, Moss averaged 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists. In the 2018 19 season, Moss averaged 9.2 points and shot 42.1 percent from 3 point range.
Self had this to say about Moss
Isaiah was a very good player on a very good team at the University of Iowa, Self said in a release. He s played in big games. He s certainly used to the physicality of our sport after playing in the Big Ten and has been very well coached and drilled. He also played at a top high school program at Simeon in Chicago. I m very excited about him and the opportunities that he will give us to stretch the floor and certainly play with a couple really good big guys.
Jalen Wilson committed to KU and signed with the Jayhawks Wednesday.
Wilson is a four star recruit out of Denton, Texas and is the No. 50 ranked player in the class of 2019 and is the No. 8 ranked player out of the state of Texas.
247Sports Evan Daniels offered this evaluation of Wilson s game
A big perimeter prospect that possesses shooting ability and skill. At 6 8, he has very good size for the position and he s a good athlete. He has a solid build and one that would fill out further in a college weight room. He already plays well through contact. Shooting is among his biggest strengths. He has good shot mechanics Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk Jersey, shot preparation and good range. He s also a good passer. Areas for improvement include creating space for pull ups and ball handling. Wilson has the chance to be a first round draft pick with development.
Here are a number of stories from Wilson s commitment
TRISTAN ENARUNA — NO. 13
Tristan Enaruna committed to KU back in May and has since joined the rest of the squad in Lawrence. Enaruna is a four star recruit and is the No. 61 ranked player in the class of 2019.
Self had this to say about Enaruna after he signed with KU
We have been recruiting Tristan the entire year and have always been impressed with his IQ, skillset and tremendous athletic ability, Self said in a relase. At 17 years old, he is young for his class but his versatility is one of a guard. ... We feel like Tristan s ceiling is one that he could be one of the most complete offensive players that we ve had here at Kansas over the last several years.
Michael Jankovich joins the Jayhawks as a walk on. Jankovich is the son of former KU basketball assistant coach and current SMU head coach Tim Jankovich.
Here are some of Jankovich’s highlights from the Adidas circuit. He made one 3 point shot in KU basketball s first camp scrimmage and Self even said before the event that he might be the best shooter in the gym. Jankovich is joining the team as a walk on during the same offseason that former walk on Garrett Luinstra, from Lawrence Free State, was reported by 247Sports to have been departing. Luinstra has entered the transfer portal and is not expected back.
Issac McBride signed with KU back in November and is now on campus for the summer.
McBride is a three star recruit and is the No. 22 ranked combo guard in the class of 2019.
247Sports Brian Snow offered this evaluation of McBride s game
A player who can really shoot the ball, McBride is going to be asked to stretch the defense and can really score it off the catch and off the bounce. While he isn’t a true point guard, McBride is able to run the team at times, and shows a solid feel for the game. Still what the 6 foot 1 combo guard does best is make shots, and play with energy. A solid athlete https://www.kansasjayhawksshop.com/mitch-lightfoot-jersey-c-15.html, he should bring some offensive punch to the court right away, and develop into a quality player during his time in college.
